Ronald Heckman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2025.
Ronald B. Heckman, 81, of Zionsville, PA, formerly of Emmaus, passed away on March 22, 2025, in Jacksonville, FL. He was the beloved husband of Pamela Heckman, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Born and raised in the Lehigh Valley, Ron graduated from William Allen High School in 1962 before becoming part of the charter class at Florida Technological University (now the University of Central Florida), where he earned his degree in 1971.

Ron was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served with distinction as a Sergeant in the 5th Special Forces Group (Green Beret/Airborne) during the Vietnam War from August 1968 to May 1969. As a dedicated Radio Operator, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service.

His commitment to fellow veterans extended far beyond his military career. He devoted much of his life to supporting those who served, earning him the Chapel of the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award and the rare distinction of being named an honorary Marine, recognizing his unwavering service dedication.

After his military service, Ron worked for the state of Florida, helping veterans secure employment. In 1979, he returned to Pennsylvania with his family and started living in Emmaus, PA. He worked at Mack trucks, starting off his career in personnel. A few years later, he took a job at John Wanamaker's as their personnel director and, in 1995, purchased and ran his own business before retiring in 2014.

Ron's greatest pride was his family. He and Pamela built a loving home together, raising their daughter and two sons.

Ron was survived by his wife Pamela, daughter Jennifer Kloss (Alfred), sons Matthew Heckman (Nicole), and Stephen Heckman (Caitlin). He was a devoted and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Alfred, Andrew, Thomas, Kristina, Daniel, Claire, and Ada.

He was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm L. Heckman and Anna Hazel May, as well as his older brother, Malcolm Heckman.

A visitation will be held on Saturday at Kulicks Funeral Home in Emmaus, April 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with services to follow. Immediately following the service, a full military honors ceremony will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Allentown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice, continuing his legacy of service and compassion.
