To both the Kachman and Poston families, you have my condolences and deepest sympathy and I want to let you know that Ron made a tremendous difference to my life, as he did to countless others.
I was very proud to call him both colleague and friend and when my time comes to leave this world for the next, I hope I will be able to do it with the same strength of character and dignity shown by Ron. I shall miss him dearly!

This is what I shared at the Celebration of Life on January 20th; a snapshot about the interesting complexities of father-daughter and how much I will miss his love.

You lifted me over your head so I could ride your shoulders as a kid &
You challenged me to see the big picture when I was an adult.

Your meticulous calculations to my wild estimations were balanced
By my intuitive superpowers that baffled your logic.

My shamanism and spirituality met your quantum physics and Sci-Fi
And you could see the bridge between both worlds, believing the possibility
That life was much more than what merely meets the eye.

My spontaneous decisions triggered your calculating and thoughtful nature;
You were Mr. Consumer Reports to my impulsiveness and spontaneity.

My fiery passionate rants were met by mostly your measured speech, patience and diplomacy; qualities that served you at work, but were infuriating to receive as a teenager.

You would climb the mountains and navigate the valleys with me, always listening.
Sometimes there were no words, and we would just sit still with it all- the victories and defeats, milestones and challenges of Life.

We have planted garden seeds and gone on missions for the perfect Christmas tree.
We cried together watching chick flicks & laughed at mom's to do lists,
Preferring the sanctuary of sudoku & stillness over busyness.

You were the dad that my school friends envied- kind, generous, loving, available.
Dave and I clearly lucked out when we signed up for you as our dad.
You never gave up on our dreams, as those were as precious to you as they were to us.

You were mom's soulmate, companion and best friend.
Who else would sail on the ocean by her side, terrified of drowning,
Because you wanted her to share her passion for all things aquatic?
A love like that is rare.

You were Mr. Fixit, but could never repair my broken heart, even though you kissed my scraped knees as a kid and made everything better. I learned that somethings you need to heal yourself.

You were mom's morning kisses and coffee conversations
Enthusiastic high fives to Dave's awesome accomplishments
Fist pounds welcomes to Don's hip hop ways
And your classic bear hugs inspired my Free Hugs.

Being wrapped in your Love with your strong arms and big heart was the best medicine you could give. Hugging you on stage at my NAIT grad and our last hug will always be unforgettable.

To hold your calloused mechanic hands was to know true strength & gentleness.
Even when there were no words, your hand reaching for mine said everything.

Despite our differences, we were very much the same.
Despite our differences, we taught one another to love deeper.

I am not sure what a daughter is like without a father; but I do know that you will be whispering the words I need to hear, surrounding me with love and encouraging me to bloom, whether I can see you or not. I will imagine you wrapping your arms around me, and take comfort in your return to Peace.

Thank you, dad, for everything.
