POMANTE
DR. RONALD GABRIEL, M.D.

71, of Newtown Square, PA, died on December 3, 2018 after an extended illness. He passed away peacefully while lovingly surrounded by his family. Ronald was born in 1947 at Bryn Mawr Hospital and grew up in Devon, PA and attended Devon Elementary School, Tredyffrin-Easttown Middle School, and graduated from Conestoga High School in 1965. He attended Villanova University where he graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 1969 on a full academic scholarship. He attended Medical School at Creighton University in Omaha, NE and completed medical school in 1973 and residency for Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1976. He met the love of his life, Maureen, while in Omaha. They married in 1972 and moved to Vineland, NJ in 1976 where he began his career as an OBGYN physician. Over Ron's 36 year-long career, he delivered over 5,000 babies and was adored by his patients. He served on multiple medical committees, contributed to several journal articles regarding Obstetrics and Gynecology, and participated in the furthering of OBGYN education of residents in the clinical field and also as a professor and lecturer. He was a proud Physician and was passionate about his work until his retirement in 2013. After 31 wonderful years in Vineland, Ron and Maureen moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to their children and grand-children. He and Maureen loved traveling and more recently had visited Alaska, Croatia, Greece, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, and Hungary. Ron also enjoyed many hobbies during his life including hunting in Maine with his friends, building and flying model remote control airplanes, gardening, woodworking, collecting rare coins, starting and co-running a large car show, wine and beer making, making stained glass, racing dragsters, and his absolute favorite hobby of collecting and driving vintage cars. He was a loyal Villanova and Philadelphia sports fan, and loved watching Eagles games on Sundays and going to The Vet to cheer on the Phillies. He and Maureen loved going to dinner frequently with their many wonderful friends. He enjoyed spending his summers at their shore house in Sea Isle City, NJ and enjoyed time with his beautiful grand-children. He will be missed and is loved by many. Ronald, aka Ron, Ronnie, "the Big Boy", Dad, Pop-pop, son, brother, cousin, godfather, uncle and husband, is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maureen (nee Kavanaugh); his three daughters, Kristin (Rocco) D'Uva, Gina (Matthew) Genesio, and Angela (Timothy) Sipe; his eight grand-children; his sister, Kathryn (Robert) Harclerode; two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and 18 nieces and nephews. Dear Maureen,

So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. I have so many fond memories of working with him at Newcomb, first as a new graduate in 1978 (His skills and bedside manner were the best.) until his leaving Vineland. I chose the best to deliver my baby, and he came to the hospital on New Year's Eve, when he was not on duty, to deliver my precious little girl, who is now 37. He was a wonderful, very special person with a great sense of humor.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Ron was a good friend and neighbor. He delivered my daughter Cara and my son Chaz . Chaz was actually born on Ron' s birthday; Ron (having three daughters) jokingly suggested that Ronald Gabriel was a great name for a boy. Apparently Ron routinely suggested that name when his patients had sons, according to Maureen. Ron had a wonderful sense of humor, a warm quick smile, and a contagious hearty laugh. He will truly be missed by so many who knew him. My heart breaks for Maureen and their girls and my condolences go out to each one of them. Such a tragic loss.
