Ronald (Ron) Wicks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 18 to Apr. 23, 2023.
February 3, 1941 - April 5, 2023 BOISE, ID - Ronald (Ron) Allen Wicks. February 3, 1941 - April 5, 2023

The family of Ron Wicks is sad to announce the passing of their loved one on April 5, 2023.

Ron had a full and loving life. He was born in Boise, Idaho to Mary Lou and Belmyn Wicks at St. Luke's Hospital. He grew up in the North End, going to school at Washington, North, and then Boise High. He had fond memories of playing baseball and escapades with friends in the foothills and the North End. l. He loved Idaho and the outdoors, where he could be found hunting, fly-fishing, and skiing. He told stories of his hunting and fishing exploits and driving up the road to Bogus when it was dirt (mud) and one-way (up in the morning and down in the afternoon).

After high school and a time at Boise Junior College (pre- Boise State University), he moved to Utah as a bank examiner and met his future wife, Diane. Together they moved to Denver, Colorado, where Ron graduated from Denver University, and they welcomed their first child, Stephanie. After his active duty in the Air Force, Ron and Diane came back home to Boise and welcomed their son, Greg.

Not only was Ron active in his family life -- going to his children's sporting events, introducing them to the outdoors, treating them to an infinite set of life quotes, etc. -- he was active in the community. He was a member and held various leadership positions in the Jaycees and Boise Vista Lions Club and was a "Big" in Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He also delivered Meals on Wheels and was an active member in various tennis clubs. His interest in business and entrepreneurial commerce engaged his work life in finance, banking, and start-ups.

Throughout his life he loved skiing, mountain biking, and tennis and later attending his grandchildren's sporting activities.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews for his funny spirit and stories, his life quotes, and his presence (you could always count on him). He will be profoundly missed by his wife Diane, his siblings Linda Reed (Ron) and Cara Lou Wicks, his children, and grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father.

The family wishes to send special thanks to the VA Hospital for the caring healthcare he received over the years - they were always there for him.

Services will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on May 1, 2023 at 11am. Join us immediately after the service at the LDS Church on Broadway (1925 S. Broadway Ave) for lunch and a time to remember Ron.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkinson's Foundation's Pacific Northwest Chapter (https://www.parkinson.org/PacificNW) or Idaho Humane Society (https://idahohumanesociety.org/).

I will always remember Ron´s beautiful face from high school. I had a lovely conversation with him at our 60th class reunion. I, and all our classmates, will certainly miss that face at future reunions. Rest in peace, dear Ron. My thoughts are with you and your family, Diane. Sorry I live so far away in Washington, DC, snd could not attend the service at my old 6th Ward.
