It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of a wonderful and talented husband, father, grandfather and great grand-father. Ron passed away on his 79th birthday with his family by his side.
Ron was born in Fort William, ON and attended FWCI. It was there where Ron met Barb (Oldale) and married in 1959, recently celebrating their 59th Anniversary. Ron and Barb have three sons Kevin, Cory and Kirk, all residing in Thunder Bay.
Ron built and remodelled many homes, there was nothing he could not build or design. Always helping no matter what his ailments, his talents were passed onto his sons.
Ron made beautiful stained-glass pieces which adorned his homes and beautiful gardens. Ron received 1st prize from Thunder Bay Horticultural Society for his gardens on Rupert Street.
In 1979, Ron and family built their dream home at Amethyst Heights on Lake Superior. Designed by Ron's brother and architect Les Stechesen and built by Ron and his family, many good times were had with family and friends while residing at the Lake.
Ron worked for Tom Jones and Sons for many years, up to his retirement in 2004. After retirement it was decided to down size the family home and move to Lakeshore Drive, then years later a move back into the city onto Rupert Street, both homes were extensively renovated and given Ron and Barb's personal touch.
Ron and Barb enjoyed many winter trips together during their retirement years. Their favourite destination was Treasure Island in Florida.
In 2013, it was decided to leave the cold winters behind and relocate to Southern, ON (Brantford). Unfortunately, during this time, Ron's health changed and he was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Unable to remain in their own home, it was decided to find a new home with their son (Kirk) and son-in-law (Mark) in Paris, Ontario. In 2017, Kirk was transferred back to Thunder Bay which brought the entire family back together again in Thunder Bay.
Ron is survived by his wife Barbara, sons Kevin (Billie), Cory (Leslie) and Kirk (Mark Toneguzzi), five wonderful grandchildren Ryan (Amanda), Brooke (Matt), Ashley, Erin (TJ) and Danielle (Joey) and three great grandchildren Araya, Paisley and Zayden as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ron is also survived by his brother Leslie Stechesen (Winnipeg), sister-in-law Betty Martin and brother-in-law Robert E. Zelinski. Ron also leaves to mourn his two fur children, Chai and Mandy, and fur grandchildren Mya, Shelby and Kaeli.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Jessie Stechyshyn, sister Eleanor Hrynyk, sister and brother-in-law Nadia (Hope) and Bill Hall, in-laws Bill and Mais Oldale, brother-in-law Irwin Martin, sisters-in-law Joan Zelinski and Linda Stechesen.
Special thanks to our sons Kevin, Cory and Kirk and his partner Mark Toneguzzi, for all their help and support with Ron. Thank you to Dr. E. Sacevich for all the years he looked after us, and Dr. K Gleason for your compassion and kindness toward Ron during the past months.
As per Ron's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service or celebration of life, at this time.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers a donation in Ron's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation to help find a treatment and cure for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) or the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation would be appreciated.

I am saddened by the passing of an old friend. Ron and I attended Drew St school in the same class. At a very young age he exhibited the skills that he had and the talent to produce lovely projects. RIP my friend
