Ronald Treleven Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 4, 2025.
Ronald Paul Treleven, 72, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, after a short critical illness, comforted by his husband, William MacElroy, and his devoted siblings, Robyn Torres and Gregory Nullmeyer.

Ron lived a life full of compassion, curiosity, and wit. He had a gift for seeing the world through a slightly sideways lens-always ready with a dry remark or observation that could make you laugh and think. His heart, though, was the most memorable part of him. Ron was the friend you could call with any small trouble. The listener who never rushed you. The voice of reason when you needed truth told with care. We all relied on him for wisdom, guidance, and support.

His professional life began in public relations at the College of Marin and later Kaiser Permanente. He eventually became head of finance and human relations at Socratic Technologies, a firm co-founded by his husband, Bill.

When Ron and Bill retired, they didn't slow down-they bloomed. Together, they built Monte-Bellaria di California Lavender Farm in Sebastopol. While Bill tended the shop, Ron devoted time to keeping the books and volunteering at local nonprofits like the Ceres Community Project and Sonoma Family Meals, continuing his lifelong habit of showing up for others.

Ron's love for food was legendary. He collected cookbooks like treasures and delighted in exploring complex recipes-always to the benefit of lucky friends and family. He built a whole library of cookbooks inherited from his uncle John Treleven.

Born in Marin County on October 17, 1952, to Ralph John Treleven and Carole Jane Burman, Ron grew up in Fairfax, Huntington Beach, and Terra Linda. He later made his home in San Francisco, a city he adored.

He is survived by his husband and partner of many years, Bill MacElroy of Sebastopol; his sister Robyn Torres of Point Reyes Station; his brother Greg Nullmeyer (Pamela Nullmeyer) of Henderson, Nevada; and his cherished nieces: Jacqueline Torres (Nathan Slavik) of El Cerrito, Mandy Torres (Nicolas Colomb) of Novato, and Alison Jackson (Kyle) of La Habra Heights. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Mark MacElroy ofAtlanta, GA, his sisters-in-law Dawn MacElroy ofRaleigh, NC and Barbara Klein ofAshland, OR/ and cousin-in-law Robert Whiteman ofHenderson, NY. He also leaves behind four grandnieces, one grandnephew, and many cousins, with especially close family ties with Kathy Treleven of Seattle and Claudia Rinker of Napa.

We miss Ron more than words can say, but we carry his spirit with us-in the kitchen, in the garden, in the quiet moments when a friend needs a kind word. His love still surrounds us like the scent of Sonoma summer on a warm breeze.

Ron was one of the kindest and best people I have known. He was whip smart, fun and funny and the best friend anyone could have. He literally saved my life and sanity after my husband died suddenly. From our long chatty walks during COVID, our political work together plus just plain fun times (including wine) he was a huge part of my life for years. I will always miss him but am so grateful that I was lucky enough to have had him as a friend. I love you Ron

He will definitely be missed, and the world grew a bit smaller without him in it.

I just loved Ron. I had the opportunity to work along with him as The Greeting Lady at the top of the hill of Lavender Paradise. We kept each other laughing, all morning. Well, I can't lie, sometimes I was the only one laughing at my Mom Jokes.
Best memory that will stick? I'd have to say, how long it took for him to learn the pronunciation of my name, which is Michal (female).
My knowing him a short few years doesn't compare to the years you all have added together but from what little I know, he was one of the good guys.
My heart is weighed with the feeling of the loss you all have but we all know he can rest now.
Hugs for all .

Ron was a client of mine, and then a friend, along with Bill. I remember Ron as being a kind and gentle soul and the world is a sadder place without him. He will be missed....

Your heart soon will be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Even though I had only known Ron for a few years, he always made me smile. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I suspect that the loss of Ron is devasting to everyone who crossed his path. Ron was most welcoming, both into his home and family. He is a gift that will be missed. Long time friends are lucky to have countless reminiscences in their life; my time wasn´t long enough, but I treasure the many memories of long telephone calls. We often agreed that we needed to write down all the things we wished to say. Yet, in actuality there was never enough time; I guess there never is.

I was proud to call him my brother-in-law. My husband said of Ron that he was an amazingly kind and considerate man, but that only begins to say it all. We never know who will touch our lives so strongly, I wish I had told Ron that he did mine. We are cheated and will miss him greatly.

I remember the light in Ron's eyes, often full of mischief. We had an instant connection when we met at dinner before a Lamplighters performance, and always thought it might be because Bill and I share the same birthday. Max and I are profoundly saddened by his passing, and send our love and deep compassion to bill.

Ron is a wonderful, kind, giving person. He was interested and always sat for long periods to listen and give good advice. I will always remember our conversations, and I´ll miss him.

Bill, I am so sorry for your loss. You are both loved.
