Dr. Weinstein ...

Even now, he continues to inspire me. I am sure I speak for many of the other former residents who had the opportunity to train at the University of Arizona when Ron was the chairman. For me, I remember several times sharing my excitement about informatics (it was new back then), and particularly about my deepest passions as to where we could merge pathology, informatics and medicine together to elevate medicine to the highest levels. To this day I carry his words with me. After preparing for a week, I had a strategy outlined which I shared with Dr. Weinstein. He saw value for my very lofty (and maybe unrealistic) goals. He smiled through his thick glasses ... but in all seriousness said "That it was very interesting and important idea." Then reminded me "It wont be easy. It will take 50 attempts". Everyday, those words echo in me . . . mostly because they came from a man for whom I all hold so much respect. I still believe that I work as hard as I do, in part, because a brilliant man shared the a vision that could make difference. Dr. Weinstein, you made us believe in ourselves, and I am lucky to have known you! Thank you for your example and friendship.

You impact continues to inspire me even today.

I just heard of Ron's death. I knew and worked with him through the ASCP and CAP. He was a true innovator and always so upbeat. His contribution to medical care through telemedicine is huge. My sympathy goes to his family.

The world lost the father of telepathology, a great leader in telemedicine, great doctor and healthcare hero. Universities have lost a most respected and distinguished professor, with a lifetime of experience in medical science and promoting health literacy education. We have lost a great mentor. We are honored to know you, we cherish you, admire you, and we miss you more in this pandemic time.
Dear Mary, Katherine and John, please accept our sincere condolence.

Mary: My deepest and most sincere sympathies. Ron's passing is a horrific loss to so many and a great loss that spreads way beyond the Tucson community. Ron touched so many lives and was such a compassionate good man and Dr. His character was exemplary and his wisdom and contribution to science was incredible. He will be missed and remembered.
