My name is Dwight Martin. I'm a harmonica player I was fairly young and I met her at think of the place called The cove in Greensboro North Carolina she heard me playing. Invited me to faron
young s celebrity ballroom around fanfare to come up there and play with or so that I did. Been playing at harmonica all over the country to have the world since. But I got to thank Ronnie for getting me out of the corn field and into the county. God bless you Ronnie I'll see you on the road less traveled.

She and her daughter were patients of mine in Mansfield Ohio Optometry practice. She was so funny and down to earth. Eventually she invited my wife and I to a Friday night after wrap party of the Hee Haw crew and what an experience! She also took us behind the curtains at The Grand Ole Opry and introduced me to Roy Acuff and other stars.
The country music world has lost a much beloved icon.

To the Family of Roni Stoneman,
We are truly saddened to hear about the death of Roni Stoneman, and we send our heartfelt condolences to you during this difficult time. We have certainly lost a talented person. We are thankful she shared her remarkable banjo playing talents with us, and she will certainly be missed by all who loved her. I fondly remember watching her play the banjo and act on the "Hee Haw!" television show in the 1970s, and she was talented. I especially liked her act as the gap-toothed comical country character Ida Lee, and when she acted/sang alongside other cast members singing the song "Pfft! You Were Gone!". Thank you, Ms. Stoneman, for sharing your musical, comical, and acting talents, and skills with others. You will not be forgotten. Most certainly, your legacy as The First Lady of Banjo will continue to inspire others.
Please continue to treasure your good memories and may they soothe your saddened hearts. May prayers strengthen you and your cherished memories comfort you, and may God soothe your hearts and comfort you always. (23rd Psalm)

Not only was Roni a highly skilled banjo picker, she was a talented comedienne on Hee Haw. Between skits, she kept me laughing with her delightfully funny and heart warming stories. At the Hee Haw Reunion, she was so proud when telling me about her family, both past and present. We will all miss her.

I remember Roni cooking dinner for me one time when I was visiting and dying my hair. She said "I used to be on television, I know how to fix hair". She loved to perform and she always took that banjo should the chance come up to play. The jam sessions I witnessed at her house- it was all so special!!!

My first memory of Roni was seeing her on Hee Haw when I was a little girl. I got to meet Roni and was blessed by our friendship. We had a lot of fun going thrift shopping together. She loved her kids and grandkids and was so proud of them all. She would beam when talking about them. I remember when we were talking about our families. She told me she carried the Stoneman name proudly and she encouraged me to carry my bio fathers name when I did music as it is a legacy. She loved his music. Roni could be really serious, but she could be funny too. I used to like to make her laugh, and her Roni-isms made me laugh. It also would crack me up when we would talk on the phone for quite a bit and she would just be done and say, "Okay, hun. I gotta go. I'll see you later" and then hang up. She was one of a kind. I'll miss her presence on this earth, but I look forward to seeing her in Heaven.
