Rose Hayward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 23, 2024.
Rose L. Hayward (née Lemons), aged 88, passed away on June 14, 2024, in Anchorage, Alaska. Born on December 21, 1935, in Yukon, West Virginia, Rose was a cherished member of her community and a beloved figure in her family.

Rose's journey began in the small town of Yukon, where she attended Excelsior High School. Seeking a better life for her children, she moved to Toledo, Ohio, in 1953, where she later earned an Associate's degree from Stautzenberger College. Rose dedicated many years to her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Collingwood Nursing Home in Toledo, finding joy and fulfillment in caring for others.

A devout member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church since 2005, Rose was actively involved in her church community in Anchorage. She was known for her culinary skills, often preparing meals for friends at her residence, Chugiak View, and her church, until health issues necessitated a step back.

Rose is survived by a loving family, including her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene Y. and Deventia Townsend of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren Alan Duff Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; Andre and Crystal Duff of Las Vegas, Nevada; Dominique Clark of New York, New York; Starla and Larry Overstreet of New Mexico; Fontaine P. and Sarah Townsend of Katy, Texas; Latisha P. Lemons, Santasha D. Lemons, and Tywon D. Lemons, all of Detroit, Michigan. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Padgett of Westminster, South Carolina, and Charlene Padgett of Worcester, Massachusetts; nephew, Gregory Hayward, and niece, Debra Hayward, both of Anchorage, Alaska. Her legacy continues through her numerous great-grandchildren and the cherished memories shared with her special friend and caregiver, Mrs. Flora Nichols of Anchorage, Alaska.

Rose was preceded in death by her sons, Alan Duff and Terry Lemons; daughter, LaDonna Smith; granddaughter, Kaneshawa (Keesha) Scott; and siblings, Juanita, Dorothy, Lester, Robert, Michael, James, and Willie.

The Cremation Society of Alaska in Anchorage is assisting the family during this time. For those wishing to pay their respects, further details can be found on their website at www.alaskacremation.com. Rose's life was marked by her resilience, generosity, and the profound impact she had on those around her. Her spirit will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
