Dear Michael, Eric and Roy,
I was saddened to learn of your and our loss and regret that I could not come to the shiva as I was out of the country until yesterday. Rose was an enormous force of energy and accomplishment through her own contributions to science and via her concerns for her colleagues at McGill and elsewhere. She helped build a strong and vital Department of Biochemistry and worked hard to support the cause of women colleagues at the University and elsewhere.

I will miss seeing her in the halls at the McIntyre, her sense of humour and feistiness and her warm heart.

with my sincere condolences,

Abe

Rose was my mentor and friend. I was extremely fortunate to have started my scientific career under her guidance. Her enthusiasm for science, her eagerness for progress, her impatience with trivia and bureaucracy, her enthusiasm, her kindness, her cleverness at addressing problems, were all qualities that I sought to emulate. I will miss her but hope to see her again with God in eternity.

We are deeply saddened that Rose is gone. She was a great friend and colleague for many years. We will always remember her joie de vivre and critical approach to science - full of fun and full of ideas. Our sympathy to her family.

What a shock that Rose is gone; my deepest sympathies go to all her family. Rose was an amazing person and an outstanding scientist, who was held in the highest regard by the Canadian biochemistry community. I had the privilege of handling an article she wrote for the CSBMCB on her beginnings as a scientist; what a story it was, courageous, amusing and touching. Rose will be greatly missed.

On behalf of the Department of Physiology at McGill, I wish to express our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to Rose's family. I will always remember Rose for her insightful comments and questions at almost every seminar we jointly attended. Her love of science and zest for life made her a captivating and remarkable individual; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her!

My most sincere condolences to Rose's family. I came to know her through our work on equity for women at McGill many years ago and I learned so much from her. She was a wonderful role model, and a wonderful person. She is greatly missed.
Sincerely, Honora Shaughnessy

First, my deepest condolences to all members of Rose's family.
Rose was a remarkable woman in her own right, and for her time. She was certainly one of the first women at McGill, if not the first, to hold a Chair in a major department. And she did this with style and aplomb. She was a first rate scientist, a role model, a leader, and a good friend. She will be much missed.
May here be no more sorrow.

My deepest condolences to the family. I was hired by Dr. Johnstone many years ago and eventually became her secretary until her Chair term was completed. I learned a lot from Dr. Johnstone and still today I practice what I learned from her and will continue to do so. May she find peace and continue to help others in a better place.

With deepest regards to her husband, sons, and grandchildren.
