David LYNCH Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 20 to Jul. 23, 2013.
Died peacefully in hospital on July 2, 2013 after a five-year battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He celebrated his 60th birthday two weeks earlier at a party with family and friends. David is survived by his son, Patrick of Santa Rosa, his life partner, Gay Barner of Santa Rosa, and his sister and mother, Cathy and Barbara of San Rafael. David moved to Sonoma County in 1983 to work for Hewlett-Packard, which became Agilent. David survived numerous layoffs at Agilent, only to be released after more than 20 years of dedicated work and loyalty. He was almost immediately hired back as a leased employee. After his son, David's great love was flying small aircraft. He built a Van's kit airplane, which took him more years than he would like to admit. When David's cancer was diagnosed in 2008, he said he hoped to survive long enough to finish his plane and fly it. He would work on his plane every night after work when his cancer was in remission, and he finished it in early 2012 just after his cancer returned in late 2011. He was by then too ill to fly it, but he got to ride in the rear seat with a friend as pilot. David volunteered with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and its Young Eagles program and with the Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency (CAFE) Foundation. David played electric bass, stand-up bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle in bands, jam sessions and festivals in Northern California. A memorial gathering will be held at the EAA Chapter 124 hangar at 5550 Windsor Rd near Sonoma County Airport on Saturday, August 10 from 1 to 4:00 pm.

David taught me how to rivet. As I got to know David, I realized that I was in the presence of a remarkable guy. An intelligent, sweet man with a courageous heart. Class act.

I am sorry to hear of David's passing. When we were kids, during sleep overs at our house in Santa Clara, David would draw pictures of him flying. He would say that, by drawing the pictures before he want to sleep, he would dream that he could fly. He told me to try it, he was sure it would work. I didn't have much luck with it, but David swore it worked. Even though we both ended up moving away, I was happy to discover that we both ended up with our pilots licenses.
I was not surprised that David ended up in a band. As Cathy probably remembers, David had a (simulated) drum set made of cardboard drums. We would play Gary Lewis and the Playboys LPs, and lip-sync the songs. Keep flying and playing David, Your Freind, Dave-N2FLT

I will always regret not reconnecting with one of my childhood friends while there was still the chance. Going to miss you David, you were a good friend to the whole gang.

I was shocked to read of Dave's passing. I worked for HP/Agilent directly as a technical writer with Dave. We also had dirt motorcycles in common and went to Cow Mountain several times with our kids. Dave will be missed!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dave's passing. We shared a love of flying and I wish I could attend the memorial, but I am too far away (Ohio) to be able to make it. Please take comfort in knowing he was very well liked and respected.
