Rose C. Phillips

Rose Phillips was born August 4, 1939, in Gary, Indiana. She was the baby daughter of the late Henry and Slona Parker. Rose graduated from Roosevelt High School where she received many outstanding awards in academic and voice. Rose attended Indiana University. She married Marvin Phillips and they were married for 44 years until his passing. She was employed with the city of Hammond GSA for 20 years. Rose had many talents; she could cook and sew like a professional. She also spent time serving others, she helped take care of her sister's needs, and she helped her daughter Kim with the raising of her own and her foster children. She grew up in Christ Temple Church, she had a beautiful voice and sang with many choirs,the Interns, Christ Temple Choral Ensemble, the Inspirational Choir, The Gospel Chorus , and was one of the lead soloists. She assisted in Christ Temple Community Children Choir Church. At Christ Temple Community Church she served on the Mothers Board and was a prayer warrior. She spent her days praying, especially for the children, she Loved the children. And always gave them good advice.

She went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2025, she was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin E. Phillips, daughter Kim Phillips Rushing, son Andrew Tyrone Phillips,and grandson Shaquille Phillips, her sisters Versie Jackson, Recye Reese, Bernice Mosely , LuWana Cooper, Essie Jennings, and Bessie Parker, her brothers Henry, Eulis, Charles, and David Parker. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons Marvin E. (Linda), and Matthew L. Phillips, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation Saturday January 11, 2025 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. , Homegoing service 11:00 a.m. all service at Christ Temple Community Church 2472 Pierce Street, Gary, Indiana Elder Michael Hudson, Sr. Officiating. Burial Monday January 13,2025 2:00p.m. Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Elwood,Il. Arrangements entrusted by Powell and Coleman Funeral Home 3200 W. 15th Avenue Gary, Indiana.
