Rosemary Jernigan Obituary

Rosemary Jernigan was called home to an eternal life with God on Thursday, February 24, 2005. Upon retiring from a fulfilling career as secretary to the Academy Training Representative of New Orleans, US Merchant Marine Academy, she began pursuing her love of the arts by volunteering for a number of organizations which included: Symphony Volunteers, Inc. for the benefit of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera Association, the Junior Committee of the New Orleans Opera, BRAVO, and New Orleans Museum of Art. She was also a member of the World Trade Center, the Republican Professional Women of Greater New Orleans, the Kings Point Retirees - U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, NAIM Conference, and the New Orleans Chapter of National Railway Historical Society. She was very proud to call herself a lifetime New Orleanean. Daughter of the late Theodore and Paola O'Brien, and loving wife of the late John Leslie (Jerry) Jernigan, she is survived by: two first cousins, Rosemary Banderet and Leon Cannizzaro, Sr., and a godchild, Mimi Holmes. Her life on this earth was an example of the joy of living every moment to the fullest, befriending all who entered her life and injecting them with her endless enthusiasm. Relatives, friends and colleagues are invited to attend the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated, Wednesday, March 2nd at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Ave, New Orleans. Visitation will be held at JACOB SCHOEN AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 3827 Canal St., Tuesday, March 1st from 6 pm - 9 pm and on Wednesday, March 2nd from 9 am - 10 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Ave. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Mausoleum, 4800 Airline Highway. In lieu of flowers, prayers and masses are appreciated or donations may be made to: The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra 225 Baronne St., Suite 910, NOLA 70122, Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera Association, 2504 Prytania St., NOLA 70130, or the SPCA-Animal Shelter of Louisiana, 1319 Japonica St., NOLA 70117.
