Rosita Tong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2018.
Rosita Tong, an angel among us, gone too soon...

Rosita, Rose or Rosie as she was known, was one of the most special people you could meet. Her zest for life and loving spirit was felt the moment you met her and for those of us who were a part of her life, we feel the void she left.

Rosita was born in Hong Kong to parents Lam Chung Sang and Kwan Wai Quen. She had two siblings, Janet and Jason. Rosita's primary education was in Hong Kong and after coming to the United States Rosita completed her higher education, graduating from Pasadena Community College and San Diego State University. In 1966 she and the love of her life Andrew Tong married. Life was a grand adventure for Rosita and Andy. Andy was an executive for Northwest airlines and with his position they lived all over California - Pasadena, San Francisco and settling in San Diego. They also loved to travel the globe visiting Europe and Asia, frequently returning to Hong Kong to visit with family. Rosita will tell that some of her favorite memories were the cruises she and Andy took.

Rose was the first one to welcome me to the La Mesa/Spring Valley School District. We worked together for 25 years and retired the same year. The children adored Rose. She was a loving, giving person. Her love of Andy showed in so many ways. She was there for families, children and other staff members. She was always the teacher. To know Rose was a joy. She will be missed by many.

Heaven gained a beautiful angel, Rosita on December 30th, 2017 and today we celebrated her life as well as her journey to her new home. She was so many things to so many people with her immense love for all. Her witty, gracious, generous, giving nature were just a few of her wonderful qualities. I was truly honored to be accepted by her as her god daughter in law. She was also god grandmother to my two boys in every way a grandmother could be, spoiling them, squeezing their cheeks and always having them teach her the latest hippest trend. She loved learning how to dab and shortly before her passing she learned what bottle flipping was and how to do the floss! They miss her tremendously and carry a photo of her to school. I too miss Kai Mom (godmother) deeply, especially our weekly emails. She will forever be in our hearts and memories.

Today, was a sad day to say goodbye to a beautiful friend; Mrs. Tong, as I called her, even though she would tell me to call her Rose. I worked with her as a preschool teacher in 1988-89 then met again in Parent Ed. Classes and Zumba. She was a beautiful soul; always very positive and kind to me. Rest In Peace beautiful Rose.

Rose was Andy's angel. She was a beautiful person. She will be missed
by family and friends and especially by Andy! Now she is a real angel in heaven. May she rest in peace or do what angels do in heaven.
