I first met Ross at a conference in Montreal sometime around 1979. He worked for the Globe. I was a nobody freelancer from NB. He treated me as a colleague, generously and kindly. I was so saddened to hear of his passing; he is a loss to the profession and to the larger community of caring people.

I met Ross when I worked for Peggy in Ottawa many years ago. He was instantly friendly and warm and I was impressed by his gentle and intelligent presence. Peggy and I have remained friends and we would get together at cottages and dinners whenever we could. Ross was a fine person who has enriched us all. Our thoughts and support are with you Peggy and to Ross's family.

I was a friend and colleague of Ross for about 15 years when we were both at the Globe and Mail, and worked closely with him on a number of projects. As a journalist, he was always fair and diligent with his reporting, and had a well-developed sense of how to dig out and advance a story. I'm sure his journalism students were well served. Particularly if they picked up on his essential fairness and humanity at the same time. My condolences to his loved ones.
