I made a friendship with Mr. Hunt (that's how I've always known him) when I was going to Baker Middle School in 1987-1989. We played chess nearly every day after school - he nicknamed me "The Shark" because I would win nearly every game (I was a solid B-player at the time which well above the average chess player). He deeply treasured his wins against me lol. We would often play with music in the background and he would often offer me a soda. He supported me well after I moved on to Foss, including giving me a chess scholarship. My last time I spent time with him was when we took a rowboat to a uninhabited island in the Puget Sound and played chess for 6 hours -- I got a bad sunburn on my neck afterwards - fun times. Pre-marriage the years 1987-1989 were the most enjoyable in my life, primarily because of Mr. Hunt's pleasant company. While I am sorry I won't see him again, I am glad I got to know him.

I was reading my 6th grade diary last night with my friend, Anne. Mr. Ross was our 6th grade teacher in 1976/77 (Bicentennial celebration year). We both wondered if he was still in Tacoma so we Googled only to find this. He made such a huge impact on so so many kids with his "Yenom" system to teach us as well as making us memorize a poem "You can if you think you can". One of the most memorable men in my life and I hope someone in the family sees this after six years and knows his life and legacy lives on through the children he poured himself into. Love you Mr. Ross and thank you for everything you gave us.

He will be missed. I still remember coming to Washington one summer and putting the shell in the microwave to see if it had a pearl in it. RIP.
