Ross LENNOX Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Nov. 5, 2013.
LENNOX, Ross
Born Christmas Day 1922, Ross passed away peacefully on November 1, 2013. Predeceased in 2009 by his loving wife Gladys (nee Walker). Survived by his four children: John (Nadia), Chuck, Gina (Richard Shapiro) and Donna-Lee (John Waymann). Brother "Billy" to Alan (predeceased 2009) and Richard (Kathy). Proud "Bubba" to grandchildren John-Ross (Alie), Scott, David (Rachel), Michael (predeceased 1983), Sarah, Megan, Emilee, Kimberlee, Ashlee and Haylee and caring "Big Bubba" to great grandchildren Joshua and Zachary. Ross' aviation career spanned over six decades starting in 1941 as a WWII flight instructor. Ross made several significant contributions to Canadian aviation history. He was the only pilot to fly all of Canada's Sea King fleet and he completed the first unescorted trans- Atlantic helicopter crossing in 1965. He retired from P&WC in 1982 as Chief Test Pilot. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid curler and at 85, went skydiving. Ross generously supported many charities but latterly focused on the Alzheimer's Society in loving memory of his wife Gladys. In lieu of flowers, a gift to the Toronto Alzheimer's Society (www.alzheimertoronto.org) would be greatly appreciated. Bubba was an inspiration to everyone he met and will be dearly missed by all. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, for more information please call 416-231-2283. For those who wish, online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

i just got to thinking of Ross today and I am saddened to find out that he has passed away. I did not know Ross really well but had the privilege of working with him up in Great Bear Lake in mid 90's. I was the pilot at the lodge and he was lodge caretaker. He was an awesome man and yes I think of him often, even now this many years later. My condolensces to you as a family.........Luke, will send a photo soon!

We are deeply saddened to hear that Ross has passed. He was my Dad Harry Monk's best friend since they were very young. They grew up together in St. James in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ross was my Dad's best man when my Mum and Dad were married in 1947 and he stood again as my Dad's best man when Mum and Dad renewed their vows at their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006. Ross was my brother Harry's godfather and he was diligent in ensuring he was always in contact with Harry throughout both his childhood and adult life. The bond of friendship that Ross and Dad shared was a special one and lasted throughout the years until my Dad's passing in 2010. They shared a love of flying and my Dad always spoke highly of Ross as a person, as well as his expertise as a pilot. We always enjoyed the visits Ross would make to Winnipeg and learning about all his recent adventures. While we will miss him, we are grateful for the times we spent in his good company and for the joy of true friendship he shared with my Dad. Pam and Terry Gardiner.
