Dr. MacKay was one of my professors in both the undergraduate and graduate programs in UBC Geography in the 1970s. A truly remarkable man with an incredible academic career. Everything I know about the Arctic, I learned from Dr. J. Lewis Robinson and him! My condolences to the family.

It has been a long time since I did Geog. 401 with Dr. MacKay. I learned there that a good map explains a lot of ideas with simplicity and brevity.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of Dr. Mackay. I recall meeting Dr. Mackay many many years ago, here in the Mackenzie Delta. I believe he was on a return trip to Inuvik, from Garry Island, with his guide and assistant Albert Oliver. Dr. Mackay spent many seasons here in Western Arctic. He must be sharing his most recent findings with Albert, with Edward, with Dr. Gill and most like my father, Victor. Rest in Peace Dr. Mackay. Quyanainni.

Dear Leslie & John:
I am sorry to read of the passing of your father Dr. Ross Mackay, the grandson of the Rev'd Dr.George Leslie Mackay, the beloved Missionary Doctor honoured by the Taiwanese & Canadian people for establishing churches, schools & the Mackay Clinic in Tamsui, Taiwan. After visiting Tamsui & also seeing the Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taipei it was a thrill to learn that his grandson Ross Mackay was living here in Vancouver. I did phone your father at that time.
Leslie, the wonderful obituary paying respect to your 98 yr old father shows that he was a remarkable man too, who is gone now & this world is lessened because he is now not a part of it. I am sure he will never be forgotten by those whose lives he touched. May your own cherished memories of your father, grandfather & great grandfather bring all of you comfort at this time

Dear Anne – what a wonderfully written obituary. Our sincere condolences once again to you, your sister and the rest of the family. It was a joy and privilege to know your father, who was a legend in his own time. Our joint interest and experience in the north is what kindled the friendship. We hope to see you very soon. Gisèle
