Ross Schillesci Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2022.
Ross Suddy Schillesci, age 84, of Slidell, LA., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, October 21, 2022. In the end, it was not without an epic battle led by my faith in God, my devoted wife, Loyce, and my loving family. However, before the end, this was my beginning…I was born Rosario Suddy Schillesci on November 19, 1937, and my father was Rosario Suddy Schillesci, and my mother was Genevieve Gullo-Schillesci. I leave behind my beloved wife, Loyce Savant-Schillesci of 63 faithful years and my two daughters, Andree Schillesci-Francis, Timothy Francis, son-in-law, only grandson, Evan P. Francis and youngest daughter, Danelle Schillesci-Perret, and son-in-law Elliot (Jamie) Perret. My life was filled with life-long friends from St. Matthias Catholic grammar school, class of 1952. My hunting and fishing best friend who I met at De La Salle high school, Dale Merceron, (a.k.a. Buck). I proudly served in the military after high school in the National Guard and Army Reserve and was honorably discharged after 8 years of service. My education continued with a Drafting and Business degree from Delgado College and Tulane University. My circle evolved into meeting new best friends, Fred, and Ann Westenberger, (who also happened to be my attorney) and who accepted my request to legally change my name to Ross. Life continued to grow and change as we built our first home in Metairie where our girls grew up and went off to college. After we became empty nesters, I was proud to build my dream home on the water ways of the North Shore. Boating, fishing, and cruising unfolded into my next chapter. Due to my debilitating battle with diabetes and Parkinson's disease, I continued to fight with daily visits to Cross Gates gym, as well as, a new found gift of Peace in Painting. This was when my work-outs included 6-8 hours a day of painting prolific canvases that cover the walls of my home today! My deepest gratitude is dedicated to my wife, Loyce, friends, neighbors and her shepherding caregiver, Gwendolyn Thompson, (a.k.a. GG). The comfort and blessings of the Heart of Hospice caregivers completed my journey into Peace with God. I will always be with you in Spirit… My wish is that family and friends remember my life through prayer…A celebration of life gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
