Rowena Creer Garver

August 11, 1930 - February 26, 2024

Rowena Creer Garver, 93, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, in Bethesda, MD. Rowena was born to J. Roscoe and Isabelle Creer on August 11, 1930, in Takoma Park, MD. She graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, MD in 1948 and from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1952. She earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics and was a member of the Gamma Psi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Rowena married her college sweetheart Earl "Dick" Garver in September 1952. When Dick started his career at Westinghouse, Rowena became a homemaker for their three children. She always enjoyed traveling with her family and was always encouraging and supportive of her children and grandchildren's careers and endeavors. Rowena treasured spending time with her family whether at home in Bethesda, Maryland or at her vacation home in Bethany Beach, Delaware. She was a kind, warm, and wonderful person - always cherishing and thankful of her family.

Rowena was a member of Congressional Country Club and was one of the Club's longest-tenured members at the time of her passing. She served as a volunteer committee co-chair for several PGA Tour golf tournaments contested at Congressional and was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma alumni board at the University of Maryland.

She is survived by her children, Earl Garver (Wendy) of Vero Beach, Florida; Paul Garver (Renee Mecheski) of Nellysford, Virginia; Jennifer G. Mavrikes (George) of Bonita Springs, Florida; as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother R. Bradford Creer (Laura) and her sister Lorraine Bibby (Douglas) as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband Dick.

A lovely, personal graveside service was planned by the children and attended by immediate family and close friends in March 2024.
