Roxann Romano Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 17 to Aug. 19, 2022.
Roxann Roxana) Romano, a very much alive and happy child, was met with an early death on June 7, 2022, at the age or 67, after a long difficult fight with cancer. She was born in Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, and spent her childhood in Madison and Liberty Corner, New Jersey. She was the 3rd of 5 children born to Anne and Frank Romano. Her mother named her Roxana after watching a TV program featuring Princess Roxana moments prior to starting labor. However, Roxann was her preferred name.
As a 2nd generation Italian-American, Roxann's early years in New Jersey were rich with an assortment of cousins, other relatives and friends. She left New Jersey after serving in the New Jersey National Guard and giving up her hairstyling profession to move to Colorado in the 1980's and never looked back. She initially, and literally, landed on her older brother's doorstep in Denver and launched herself from there. She worked as a hospital administrator, ran a home cleaning business and then at the age of 50, answering a longtime dream, graduated from nursing school as a LPN.
She met (at a Halloween costume party), and later married Scott Soper in 2001, and enjoyed living in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Evergreen, CO. She loved walking and "Jeeping" the back roads and mountain trails throughout Colorado, thrift store shopping, Arts & Crafts and tending her beautiful deck and garden overlooking Bear Creek Valley.
Roxann listened to most types of music (except Country), enjoyed talk radio and the TV series Queen of the South and Game of Thrones. Her favorite read was the Doc Ford adventure series, which led to her favorite bar and grill being on Sanibel Island, Florida, the Doc Ford Rum Bar & Grill. She loved crossword puzzles, springtime in her garden, and was most relaxed at the beach or on her deck. Her passion was arts/crafts and decorating. With this passion, Roxann would make her mountain cabin beautiful with a Southwest funk flair and gave beautiful homemade gifts to others. She spent long periods with her siblings, being "the fun aunt" to her nieces and nephews and with grandchildren shopping and making creative things. Roxann's other passion was for her Australian Shepherds, from her 1st dog, Peanuts, to her last, Duke.
Roxann leaves behind her attentive and loving husband of 20+ years, Scott Soper, sisters-in-law JoBeth Elliott and Marcia Soper, brother-in-law Jim Soper; as well as her step-sons Benjamin and Steven Soper, her step-daughter Olivia Soper McClory(Aric) and her grandchildren Peyton Soper, Grady, Reagan and Everett McClory. From her New Jersey roots she leaves behind her 92 year-old mother, Anne Romano, as well as her four siblings and their significant others: Eleanor Stewart, Pasquale Romano(Gail), Nicholas Romano(Lori), and Frank Romano(Kristin). Additionally, she leaves her niece Angela Stewart and her great-nieces Adeline and Mirabelle, her nephews Dominic, Anthony and Nicholas Romano and many much loved cousins, aunts and uncles. Roxann was predeceased by her father Frank Romano.
Roxann was a partner in life with Scott, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a cousin, a nurse to many, a friend to all and a dog companion to many. She faced her battle with cancer with courage, resolve and dignity. Gone from our sight, not from our hearts, Roxann will be missed.
