Roxie Maurer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2012.
Roxie Susan Maurer died in her sleep with her
family at her side on August 4, 2012 after a five year
battle with breast cancer. Roxie was born on June 10,
1951 in Gunnison, Utah to Monte Anderson and Ruby
Anderson.
Roxie's family lived at first in Panguitch, Utah and
later Anderson, California before finally moving to
McKinleyville. Roxie graduated from McKinleyville High
School in 1969 and went to work at Longs Drugs in
Eureka. She married her husband, Alan, on April
16,1977. Roxie left Longs in 1980 and started what
ended up being a ten year break to be a stay-at-home
mom. In 1990 Roxie went to work at Moons Play and
Learn. While at Moons, she enrolled in job training
classes. This training helped her get hired by the
Redwood Coast Regional Center as
secretary/receptionist. Roxie remained at Redwood
Coast until December of 2007 when her illness forced
her to retire on disability.
Five years have gone by and her co-workers at
Redwood Coast still have warm remembrances of
working with Roxie. She always had a sunny
disposition, a warm welcoming smile for visitors and
words of encouragement that brightened a persons
day. This positive outlook on life helped Roxie to
persevere during the more difficult days of her illness.
Roxie loved those years at home as a full time
mom. Family was very important to her and for that
reason she wanted to be at home with her kids for as
long as she could. She wanted to be home for her
kids just as her mom had been for her and her
brothers and sisters. She loved family get togethers
whether it was over the holidays or on a vacation. She
especially enjoyed camping with the "Anderson Clan"
at Whiskeytown Lake where she kind of learned to
water ski. Roxie was a bright beaming presence in our
family and her passing has left a void in our lives. We
will miss her immensely.
Roxie is survived by her husband Alan, daughters
Jessica and Kristen, and son Steven. She also leaves
behind her parents Monte and Ruby Anderson, sisters
Tana (Alan) Roth and Linda (Gary) Phillips, and brothers
Tom and Larry (Patty) as well as numerous cousins,
nieces and nephews. '
Roxie was preceded in death by her brother
Kenneth Lynn Anderson and her son Christopher Alan
Maurer.
We would like to thank the following caretakers for
the comfort and aid they gave to Roxie over the last
five years; Mad River Community Hospital, Oncology
and Infusion departments at Eureka Internal Medicine,
the Wound Care Clinic at Mad River Hospital, The
radiation oncology department of St. Joseph's Hospital
and Hospice of Humboldt. Everyone treated Roxie
with great tenderness and compassion. Finally we
would iike to thank everyone at Redwood Coast
Regional Center for their help and advice since the
beginning.
Roxie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A private graveside ceremony was held on August 10, 2012 at Oceanview Cemetery.
