Roy Chacon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 11 to Feb. 12, 2021.
Roy Glenn Chacon moved to Bishop, CA with his family in the winter of 1970 and has been a beloved resident for 50 years. Born Oct. 27, 1940, on the San Manuel Indian reservation, Roy overcame much adversity to lead a productive, hard-working, generous life. At the age of 7 he was introduced to the saxophone. He immediately loved it and went on to become an accomplished musician. He played in his high school band as well as professional bands and night clubs. At the age of 14 Roy met his wife of 61 years, Beulah Chacon, at a junior high dance in San Bernardino, they would become inseparable. They married right after graduation and together raised 2 children, Roy Mark and Debbie. Roy was always a diligent and hard worker. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the BIA and he served as Chairman of his Indian reservation for several years. Roy would travel with his family every year to Yosemite and pass through Bishop along the way. It was always his dream for his family to live in this beautiful little town. That dream came true when Roy got a job as a miner with Union Carbide. Later on, Roy and Beulah were able to open their own antiques business called "Old Acquaintances" that they ran for over 30 years. He also served on the Bishop City Council from 1983-1988. At the age of 45 Roy met his Savior, Jesus, who changed his life forever, completely delivering him from violence and alcoholism. From that point on Roy devoted himself to ministry and travelled all over the world, telling his testimony and playing his saxophone for the Lord Jesus. He played and testified on Sonlife Radio and Television for over 20 years, touching the hearts of people everywhere. He also ministered in jails, homeless shelters, and on countless Indian reservations in the U.S. and Canada. Roy always had the biggest heart to help people, especially kids. He was a Little League coach and served as a mentor to many troubled and hurting youth through IMACA. Roy was a quiet, contemplative, and reflective man with an inner strength admired by all who knew him. He lived his life honorably according to the truths in the Bible. Roy always had an undying love for the beauty found in nature. He was an early riser and could usually be found on his porch enjoying the sunrise, the sound of the birds, and reading his Bible. He loved to go fishing, hiking, and camping. He would often stay up late into the night to enjoy the magnificence of the stars. Roy passed on his love for nature and for God to his entire family. His gift of storytelling was immensely enjoyed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His dry wit and unique sense of humor were enjoyed by all. He loved to make people laugh and he always loved to talk with people and lead them to the Lord. His beautiful and generous spirit, loving heart, and mischievous smile will be forever cherished and deeply missed until that last trumpet sounds.
The memorial service will be live-streamed from the Home Ec building Tri- County Fairgrounds at 11 a.m. this Saturday, February 13, on YouTube at https://youtu.be/Jji7z-dl15Q. The graveside service is at 1 p.m. at E. Line Street Cemetery. Masks and social distancing required.

I just found out today [2-15-23] that Brother Roy Has gone home to be with the Lord, a little over two years from today!

I was looking for a CD of his on Discogs; and his profile had the dates of his life, ending on February 2021. Shocked me, as I have enjoyed his CD's/DVD's and watching him on SBN. He was such a blessing- the way he told his stories and played his saxophone. What a gifted and talented Godly man.

He will be missed, and for those of you on this site asking where you can find his music; you can find it on Amazon, eBay, Discogs, etc. and also watch his videos on YouTube. I just ordered another one of his CD's, "To Be Used Of God", with him and Jimmy Swaggart, from eBay. I know it will be a special blessing when I receive and listen to this CD of his.

My deepest condolences go out to his wife, Beulah, and the rest of his family and friends. I pray that God covers you with His abundant Peace and Love. I am sure Roy is playing his saxophone in heaven, worshiping our Lord and Savior! Blessings to all.

I just found out today that we lost a dear brother- Roy Chacon. Thankful to God that I was able to meet him at a gospel crusade at our church. He was a very down to earth and godly man. He ministered to my dad and called him on occasion. I know my dad was happy to see him when he entered Eternity. Praying for all the family. Thank you for sharing him with us.

My heartfelt condolences to Beulah and family.
Roy and I were friends in High School. We played in the Marching Band and Dance Band together. I have many fond memories of hanging out at his house watching his Dad and friends have a Jam Session.
Although its been many many years since I've seen him I will always remember him as a good friend growing up. He was one of the good guys.
