Roy Evans

Roy Harold Evans, a cherished resident of Varenna Senior Living in Santa Rosa, California, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the remarkable age of 103. Born in 1921 in San Francisco, Roy was a proud third-generation San Franciscan, raised in the vibrant Eureka Valley neighborhood. He attended Douglas Grammar School, Everett Jr. High, and graduated from Mission High School in 1938.

Roy embarked on a long and distinguished career with the Southern Pacific Railroad, starting as a file clerk and retiring as Regional Manager in 1982 after 44 years of dedicated service. His career was briefly interrupted by his honorable service in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, where he served as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class in Guadalcanal and Bougainville.

In 1946, Roy married Doris, and together they raised three sons, Jeffrey, Gary, and David, in Castro Valley, California. After Doris's passing, Roy found love again with Veronica, whom he married in 1986. They shared many happy years of travel and dancing until her death in 2003.

Roy's passions included fine cars, particularly Jensen and Jaguar, and he was an avid golfer and bocci player. He also enjoyed reading mystery novels and dancing. In 2014, Roy moved to Varenna Senior Living in Santa Rosa, where he embraced life with enthusiasm, engaging in activities like golf, cards, dominoes, and bocci ball.

Roy is survived by his daughter-in-law Joan, stepdaughters Trudie, Robin, and Tina, grandsons Airek, Noah, and Tim, step-grandchildren Christopher, Leslie, Niles, and Spencer, great-grandchildren Skyler, Ashton, and Sydney, great step-grandson Roy, and a host of devoted nieces and nephews, including the Barbarini family, John Evans, Gaylynn Firth and family, and the White family. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen, his first and second wives, his sons, and his siblings John and Muriel.

A celebration of Roy's life will be held at Varenna Senior Living in Santa Rosa, 1401 Fountaingrove Parkway, Santa Rosa CA on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 11-1.
