Roy Guevara Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 10 to Apr. 13, 2023.
Roy Mike Guevara Oxnard - ?Roy Guevara went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2023. He passed away peacefully at Bella Nova Villa Assisted Living in Oxnard.

Roy was born on June 18, 1923, in Visalia, CA to Agustin "Papa Tin" and Cresencia "Chita" Guevara. Roy was one of eight children. He went to elementary school in Visalia and attended Fillmore High School.

At 19 years old he worked in Santa Paula as a forklift driver. Soon after he would work at Stokely's, which would be a life-changing job. It was here that he met Ramona Trujillo. They started dating in 1947 and were married in 1952. Although Roy never had biological children, this union with Ramona brought three children: Richard Miranda, Nancy Romero, and Mary Ann Romero. Very soon this would include grandchildren. He warmly and lovingly welcomed this family where he would always be known as "Tata".

Roy and Ramona moved to Los Angeles shortly after getting married. They loved to go out dancing and enjoyed traveling. Another life-changing event would happen to Roy in 1953. He contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome (a rare form of polio) and spent three months in an iron lung. His recovery would take another four months, which included learning to walk again. After his recovery, Roy and Ramona traveled to France where they visited the healing waters of Lourdes to express their gratitude to God.

Roy and Ramona enjoyed having their grandchildren with them. It was a happy home with Roy's much loved and cherished Pomeranian, Fluffy. Many summers Roy and Ramona took the grandkids to Lake Arrowhead where many wonderful memories were made swimming, boating, and ice skating.

Roy and Ramona moved back to Oxnard in 1980. Roy worked most of his adult life as a machinist. His last, and favorite, job was with Kaiser Aluminum where he worked from 1980-1995. After retiring, Roy umpired with the Sunset Little League and the Men's Spanish League (he also played in the league). He loved being an umpire and was good at it.

Ramona passed away in 1999. Roy lived the rest of his life in Oxnard. He spent time with his family which would grow to include great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He preferred to get around on his bicycle which he rode all over Ventura County up until the age of 95!

Roy is survived by his sister, Mary Diaz; stepdaughter, Nancy Ornelas; good friend and neighbor, Christine Diaz as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Roy is preceded in death by his father, Augustin Guevara; mother, Cresencia Guevara; wife, Ramona Guevara; step daughter, Mary Ann Renteria; stepson, Richard Miranda; sister, Gabriela Blanco; sister, Connie Negrete; sister Irene Tello; brother, Charles Guevara; brother Augustine Guevara; and brother Henry Guevara.

Roy's family would like to express their gratitude to Glenwood Care Center, Mission Hospice and Bella Nova Assisted Living.
