Dear Lorna and Family,

Roy always had a funny story that fit any conversation. When I think of Ontario and the Sheet Metal industry I think that Roy and all the things that he was involved in. What a leader and what a loss to the industry. We will make sure that we never forget all the things that he has done for all of us.

Lorna and Family,
I am sorry for your loss. I have known Roy for a very long time at Algonquin College. When are you going to retire from the College, I would tell him from time to time?

March 2, 2009

Dear Lorna, Heather, Brett and Angie:
We were so saddened to hear of the death of your beloved husband, Roy and we all know how you must feel at this time, however, he is now in God's loving care and he knows best. Our thought and prayers are with all of you at this very difficult time in your lives. Roy and Ed were very close friends for many years when Roy lived in Kingston and we are very proud to have been part of his life at that time - life changes and friends come and go but I know that Roy was a friend for life - he certainly will be missed a great deal by the Roddy family.

Jo-Ann and I were shocked and upset to hear about Roy. We are very sorry we can't be there with you on Monday, but express our deepest condolences to you and the kids.
The sheet metal industry and teaching profession have suffered a tremendous loss with Roy's passing. Roy had a great passion for the sheet metal trade and love and repect for his students. He will forever live on in the students that he taught and coached as well as in the copper projects that he made for the competitions that are on display accross Canada. The "Hyland Swing" will continue.

To Roy
From Neil:

The Bridge of Yesterday

Over the bridge of yesterday, my thoughts have turned tonight.
And out in the far off distance, glows a warming light.

And it centres around our friendship, that has lasted through time and tide.
Though the chance and change of fortune, has severed our pathways wide.

It maybe that earth's tomorrow, holds for us our meeting place.
It maybe that only in heaven, I shall meet you face to face.

But when memory seeks a pleasant trip, and the choice of pathways comes.
I'll choose the bridge of yesterday, to the days when we were chums,

Harold has many fond memories of motorcycle adventures with Roy and I know that he will always wear a smile when he remembers the good times.

I will remember Roy fondly for a heart to heart conversation we had at the Manypause gathering at Julian and Claire's in 2008. Roy spoke openly of his love for and pride in you Lorna and your ability to inspire those around you. He also expressed his joy at being a "dad" and that any challenges involved in parenthood were easily overshadowed by the immense joy that family brings to one's life.
