Roy Hobert Jones, Sr., affectionately known as "Sunshine", 80, of Elk Garden, WV, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born on January 13, 1943, in Maysville, WV, he was the son of the late Floyd "Buck" and Esther Jones. He was married for 59 years to his partner in life, Priscilla "Tillie" (Paugh) Jones. Together they raised their children on the family farm. Roy learned to work at a young age; having trucks was not only his livelihood but something he truly enjoyed. Jones Trucking, Inc. and RJ Farms were the legacy he built. He had a love for truck pulling and his truck known as the "Attitude Adjuster".
He is survived by his wife, Tillie; four children, Roy Jones, Jr. and wife Heather of Hedgesville, WV, Melissa Davis and husband Mike of Elk Garden, WV, Craig Jones and wife Jillian of Mt. Storm, WV and David Jones and wife Tabitha of Elk Garden, WV; ten grandchildren, Marlene, Clayton, Brianna, Jessica, Allison, Riley, Austin, Logan, Riley, and Wesley; four great-grandchildren, Alaina, Caroline, Marianne, and Clara. He is also survived by one sister, Barbara Kitzmiller of Mt. Storm.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a grandson, Dylan Floyd Jacob Jones, and a sister, Irene Hartman.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 1 to 3 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Elk Garden Assembly of God Church. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 11 AM, in the church, with Pastor Johnny Spencer and Pastor James Reed officiating. Interment will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery on Nethkin Hill.
The Jones family would like to thank Chasity Broadwater & WVU Medicine Home Health and Hospice for their great care and compassion for Roy during his illness.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the WVU Medicine Hospice of Keyser, WV.
