Roy Kellington Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roy Howard Kellington, born on October 3, 1962, in Victoria, British Columbia. A proud lifelong resident of Victoria, Roy lived a life filled with love, loyalty, and deep devotion to those he cared for most: his family.

Roy was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Tracy; a proud and loving father to his daughter, Bryanna, and his son, James (Andrea); and a doting grandfather to his greatest love, Presley, who brought endless light and joy into his life. Roy's greatest pride was his family, and he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to supporting James and Bryanna in everything they did - especially in their sports. He never missed a game or practice, always there with encouragement, loud cheers, and unwavering love. His presence was a constant source of strength, and his support left a lasting mark on their lives.

He is survived by his father, Glen Kellington; his brother, Kevin Kellington (Karen); his sister, Susan Green (Reg); and his sister, Glenda Bricknell (Brian). He is predeceased by his beloved mother, Anne, with whom he shared a birthday and a lifelong special bond. Roy also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he cared for deeply and supported with the same steady love he gave to his own children.

From a young age, Roy's passion for hockey shone brightly. He was an avid player who lived for the game, both on and off the ice. Whether he was lacing up his skates or cheering from the stands, hockey was more than a sport to Roy - it was a way of life, a source of joy, and a bond he shared with many.

Roy's kindness, humor, quiet strength, and enduring love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the laughter of his family, the kindness he showed to everyone, and the deep love he passed on to his children and granddaughter.

A celebration of Roy's life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 734 Rockheights Ave, Victoria, BC, where friends and family will gather to share memories, laughter, and love in honor of an extraordinary man taken far too soon.

In Roy's words: "What did one hat say to the other hat? ... You stay here, I'll go on ahead." Thanks,

It's been very difficult to hear the sad news of Roy's sudden passing this week and I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Tracy, Bryanna, James, other family members and friends. I know Roy was always a very proud husband and father.
Roy and I met 24 years ago while both playing hockey for the Victoria Red Wings Hockey Club. We played hockey together on that team for the next 16 years at least once a week sometimes twice. Over the years the team also participated in many many weekend tournaments which required road trips to various places such as Sooke, Campbell River, Courtenay, Kelowna and Penticton. We had the opportunity to ride and room together a number of times.
Yes Roy also liked to golf and I had the pleasure to golf with him a number of times. Always a great time and so many laughs.

Roy was a gifted hockey player, a silky smooth skater with incredible puck handling skills. He was always one of our best players without a doubt. He was also very kind, friendly and easy going. We shared a common hockey philosophy that passing the puck early and often worked best. At some point during every game Roy and I would say that phrase to each other "early and often" and then chuckle.

Roy, I would now like to say that you have been taken too early and I will think of you often. You will be greatly missed. Rest easy, til we meet again mate.

Condolences to Roy´s family. From childhood days of being in the hockey rink, high school days and teenager shenanigans, then to many more bumps-ins at different hockey rinks whether it be watching, coaching or playing, I have many fond memories of Roy. I´m away and won´t be able to attend his memorial. Big hugs to you all, next time I lace them up, I will think of Roy. I know the rest of my family offers their condolences too.

We are sad to hear of Roy´s passing and wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Kellington family. Hard to believe it´s been over 20 years since the Saanich Pee Wee A team days. That was a fun year for players and parents. Fond memories of Vernon tournament and hotel stairwell socials in Richmond...

As they say the good ones, die young .As you all know Roy had a big heart , and love Traci and his family, Brianna and James . But it was his tenacious smile,
that caught everybody's attention . The passion he had for the game of hockey and for his kids and their sports. Met Roy when we were 13 years old. didn't talk all the time but when we did, it was just like old times . here's a picture of Roy and Terry visiting me in the Okanogan on my 40th birthday. What a surprise it was and there is the great smile. we'll miss you old friend until we meet again where are the skies are blue the lakes are clear the Fish are big and the games of hockey go on forever bye for now

I first met Roy when he was an Assistant Coach for the Saanich Pee Wee team. Later, he was Head Coach of the Victoria Bantam squad. Both teams included his son James and my son Jake. Roy had a very positive influence on his mid-teen players, and Jake was no exception. Roy's hockey knowledge and leadership was extraordinary. He was ill during the Victoria Bantam season, but he didn't let it slow him down, and he maintained a positive demeanor every day at the rink. Thank you, Coach, for your example and for being a strong role model for all the kids (and for us parents too). My sincere condolences to Roy's family and friends.

I have so many wonderful memories of Roy. As young cousins our families would gather often and there would be quite a bunch of us. I would say most of the time they were at our granny and grandpa's house which has been kept in their family ever since. As young adults there were a bunch of us cousins that would go on annual camping trips, and Roy, Earl and I were sometimes the last ones up, sitting by the campfire drinking beer and sharing lots of laughs. I can honestly say I don't have a single memory of Roy without that huge honest smile of his and his laugh! Gone way too soon Roy. May you rest in peace and I'm sure your mom has greeted you with the biggest hug ever. You two can now share many laughs together. All of my love to Kevin, Susan, Glenda and Uncle Glen. Love from your cousin Lois
