Roy McElwee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2025.
Roy Allen McElwee, 66, passed away on May 2, 2025, in Cedar Hill, Tennessee. Born on October 12, 1958, in Orlando, Florida, Roy lived a life grounded in faith and the joy of simple pleasures.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Suzanne; daughters Amber Vandergriff (Chris) of Mansfield, Texas, Dyanna Vanatta of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Rebecca McElwee of Mansfield, Texas; son Roy Allen McElwee II (Brittany) of Cedar Hill, Tennessee; and sister Sheila Watson-Smith of Mansfield, Texas.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen and Glen McElwee.

A proud graduate of the Class of 1977 from Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Texas, Roy remained connected to his roots while building a meaningful life in Tennessee. He was a devoted member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Pleasant View, Tennessee.

Roy found immense joy in spending time with his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He delighted in watching football and baseball games and especially loved going on cruises-relaxing adventures that allowed him to explore new places with those he held dear.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

It's been a whole week without you on this side of our world Daddy. I found a voicemail on my phone that you left on April 18th and it nearly broke me. I miss you, I miss hearing you say Love you girl. I'm betting we never stop missing our daddies. I bet you saw me trip up the curb the other night walking into work. I bet you snickered and shook your head. I picture you up there looking down over us. I cannot wait to see you again one day but until then, I love you.

I´ll miss you Roy, enjoyed your company and since your FIL was my mom´s brother we are connected forever and I would see you at reunions & family events, inc.

Our last reunion you gave me some lures you got in a return at your job and you had thought enough of me to give them to me because you knew how I enjoyed fishing and you also enjoyed my pics & stories and you wanted to part of them somehow.

Well after that reunion I couldn´t wait to fish with them and I sent a pic of the fish I caught with one of those lures (pictured below). I still have those lures today (pictured below) I could put them in retirement but I have a feeling you might want me to keep catching fish with them. So I think I´ll keep a couple of them back to honor your memory and continue to fish with a few of them and so I can be reminded of you every time I reel one in.

You were a great guy taken too soon, Heaven gained a good one, tell mom & dad " hello" and the others that went before us. Thanks for being a friend and someone interested in my story. Dennis

Papa, no words can describe how much I miss you. Moses, me, and the kids love you so much. We know you're in heaven and it is everything we ever dreamed it would be and so much more. We will all take care of Nana, just like we promised you we would.
