Roy Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2024.
Roy Leonard Miller, aged 87, of Fort Jones, California, passed from this life into eternal life on January 21, 2024. Born on June 22, 1936, in Oklahoma, Roy was a man of remarkable character and warmth, fondly remembered as "Pop" and "Len" by those who knew him best.

A proud veteran, Len served his country with dedication for four years in the Army. His professional life was marked by a long and distinguished tenure as a truck driver, where he was recognized numerous times for his exceptional service and achievements.

While some retirees spend their time at home watching TV or playing golf, Len spent his leisure time filled with an array of activities that spoke to his adventurous spirit and love for life. A voracious reader and history buff, sharing his discoveries with his family. He was also passionate about politics and could debate for hours. He also spent many hours fishing, repairing cars, and riding his cherished motorcycles. His passion for speed and mechanics was evident in his enthusiasm for drag racing boats and constructing his very own custom car. Len's presence was a staple at the Fort Jones Christmas parade, where he rode his Harley with infectious joy. You could see his smile from a mile away.

He was a man who never ceased to seek out life's thrills, emboldening even in his 70s to get tattoos alongside his wife, a testament to their shared zeal for living fully. Len's fearless nature was paralleled by his deep and genuine affection for his family, with whom he shared countless moments of laughter and cherished memories. The love his had for his family was unconditional and selfless. He always looked forward to talking on the phone or seeing family in person and being surrounded by love.

Len leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his children: Debra Brannan, Julie Weichbroit, and Ronald Miller; his grandchildren: Heather Mansukhani, Joseph Barnes, Sean Miller, Rachel Miller and Ryan VonZwinger and great-grandchildren: Aryana Barnes, Trinity Barnes, Heavenly Churchwell, Asher Miller, Elijah Miller, Arya Miller and Liam Miller as well as his niece and great-nephew: Susan Miller Brusseau and Larry Howell. He was a beacon of knowledge, generosity, and love, and his absence will be profoundly felt.

The family takes comfort in the belief that Len has rejoined his beloved wife in heaven, watching over them. His life was a tapestry of love, commitment, and joy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched.

We met Len & Shirley in 1978 when we first moved to Siskiyou county. They became good friends over the years and just as Shirley has been missed, Len will be as well.

Leonard was a great man!!! He did more for me and my family than I will ever know!! I´ve literally know him my entire life.. he was an extremely generous man. Len lived life to its fullest and was always happy to share information to us "kids" who had not been around as long as he had. I also had the pleasure of helping Len out when he was still trucking and lost an engine and my brother and I had him up and running in 24hours, and it was a pleasure for us for what he and Gran had done for our family. Granny Shirlee was also an amazing woman.... Some of my earliest memories were spending time with her as my family had its own health struggles and needed a sitter. I´ll never forget getting chocolate chip granola bars with Granny Shirlee and thinking I had just landed in heaven. RIP Len and so happy you´re with your beloved wife and rock!!!! He meant more to so many than he ever knew. You will be missed. Thanks for everything Len!!! Jesse

Pop was such an awesome man! I have great memories of Gran and Pop and hanging out at their house with my bff Heather. We would sneak around their recliners at night while they were watching tv playing "mouse" and giggling uncontrollably. We played in Pops giant dirt pile and roamed the hills around the house. They hosted many a sleepover and listened to us singing to our favorite 80's music, watched our dance performances and humored all our goofy ideas. They were both so wonderful and I'm so happy I got to be a part of their family. In later years I've loved seeing Pop riding his motorcycle in the Christmas parade and all over the valley. At Heather's wedding Pop had a terrible sun burn because he rode his bike all the way to Sacramento! He always had a smile and could you make you laugh. He will be missed! I know he is reunited with Gran in heaven and they are both happy. Lots of love to all those he left behind!

Gran and Pop´s house was a haven for me in high school. They always wanted to know all about how things were going for me and took the time to really listen. They put up with all of our giggling, drove Heather and I to so many fun activities, and always made us feel special. Even when we grew up and I didn´t see them as often I always knew they would be happy to see me and my family. My love to your family!

Pop, I wrote a poem for you in your words to us.

Pops memorial

As I lay me down to sleep,
I shall never wake,
But don´t worry my loved ones,
I am in a better place.
Peace has come upon me, as I have longed for this day to reunite with my wife,
I have missed her so much; it left a whole in my life.
To see her beautiful smile that I have missed as we dance with the angels,
And be able to kiss her lips as we embrace in the abyss and be so greatful.
Although my life was great, and I didn´t have the chance to goodbye to my loved ones,
I know deep down you knew how much I cared,
As I leave you with my memories, to be thought of and shared.
I feel so safe, I feel so free as I see the eternal light,
No longer is my life a battle, no longer do I have to fight.
As your tears flow, think of me, for I am not gone,
You will still hear my laugh, and my touch in life,
As I help guide you along.

Forever you´re Grandpa, Dad, Uncle and friend

I will always remember growing up snuggling with pop after he would come home from work and we would talk about so many things. He was so sweet to me my whole entire life. I remember all of our conversations and his infectious laugh and his big blue eyes.
