My wife, Eleanor, and I offer our deepest sympathy to the Norden family. For a brief two years from 1957 to 1959, I was proud to serve as Roy’s freshman football coach. Those years taught me that he was more than a great coach who brought Marlboro High’s football program to great heights. Roy’s work transcended mere athletic success. He cared for his players, encouraging them to improve their academic work, to adopt moral values which would serve them well as future citizens, and to appreciate the sacrifices made by their parents. He worked tirelessly to get as many of his player graduates into college, and he virtually succeeded in those efforts. His influence on those young men was immeasurable, and they responded to his counsel with eagerness and love. Roy’s legacy lives in the many lives he so profoundly shaped.

It was sad to hear about Coach's passing and my condolences. However, take solice in how many players/students he influenced throughout the years. How many he molded into men and still influences them to this day which includes me and I thank him. A part of that comes from his being a traditional man. He was big on tradition because we know tradition solidifies organizations, communities, and families. Tradition ties and binds the purpose of existence. For this, he will always be remembered.

May I offer my deepest condolences to the Norden family. I never had coach Norden as a teacher nor did I have him as a coach, but he did give me pep talks when I was injured during track season. I had and always will have the greatest respect for you coach. I just wish that other coaches of the world would adopt your honorable way coaching. May God bless you coach.

At BHS in 1961 I was one of those 135 lb. weaklings with high hopes, actually trying out for the highly successful football team. What was I thinking? I got creamed in the first tryout and the next morning I was called to Coach Norden’s homeroom. “Thanks for trying out for the team, Tim. I understand you have a paper route and enjoy doing that?” He smiled kindly and continued, “We’re looking for players who are a little heavier, so why don’t you stick with the paper route?” He thankfully didn’t mention my complete absence of skill nor my stark terror at running through a couple of plays!
What I remember most is leaving his presence with my dignity and respect in tact along with loads of relief… and I never was one of his players! Just think of all the lives that man enriched!
Blessings and Peace to Family and Friends

I will always Remember Roy as "Hey Roy where are the tomatoes!!!!" . I lived next door and what great neighbors he and Marilyn were. Quite a loss for my Mom and Dad.They were very close neighbors, best of friends. When I was in my early teens his kids and I were playing in their inground pool that was not filled and Erica I believe got into a hornets nest and we all went running, of course I followed Lynn, with her long legs, I couldn't jump that far out of above ground cement pool and landed on a stump into his famous garden, needless to say I broke my leg and just yelled Mr. Norden I've broken my leg. Thanks to him he called the EMS and told them to put a boot on my leg which greatly reduced my compound fracture. During my early driving days I had to call him over to fix the middle of the garage support as I managed to pull it out and left it dangling while my parents were away. He did such a good job fixing it they didn't even know till I told them. Roy was a big guy with such a gentle heart who will be greatly be missed by all that knew him.
I will always cherish my fond memories of him. He was quite a character and I am blessed to have known him and love him.

I came to know "Coach" at Blueberry Hill, when he was assigned to my parents through Hospice. He befriended my Mom & Dad, and was there for my Dad when Mom passed in January. He recently spent some rehab time in the same room as my father, and we had some fun chats. I brought in my yearbook so he could see pictures of the Ipswich sports coaches he had known and fondly remembered. He truly had a gift to coach, whether it was in sports, or assisting someone to adjust to the loss of a loved one. Thanks, Coach, you did great work.

To the Norden Family,
Your father will hold a place in our hearts. He was a great man with a big heart. I'll never forget how he visited my late brother who had been stricken with cancer. He spent hours just talking and giving him and I strength through a difficult period. I am a better man for having met and known him. My deepest regrets to all in his family for this great loss. He will always be remembered.
