Roy Streich

Roy Peter Streich passed away suddenly at the age of 67 on November 2, 2024 in Scarborough Ontario.

He was born on January 20, 1957 to Klara and Herbert Streich in Weston Ontario, now part of Toronto, and was the younger brother of Ralph. The family moved to east Scarborough in the late 1960's where they lived in a close-knit neighbourhood, and from which Roy attended West Hill Collegiate.

After an early career in management and as a troubleshooter with McDonald's restaurants for the Durham region east of Toronto, Roy switched tracks and decided to study Computer Science at the University of Toronto in Scarborough. He graduated from this program in June of 1987 and went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Rotman School of Management. This led to a highly successful career in Project Management in the field of Information Technology, during which he became an accomplished Program Management Consultant and Sr. Project Manager, roles which he enjoyed.

Roy loved his children Stephanie & Nicholas and was very proud of them. He greatly enjoyed spending time with them and the family camping excursions to Algonquin Park. In retirement Roy was adventurous and loved to travel. In doing so, he taught his children to live their lives to the fullest. He greatly enjoyed playing euchre with his long-time friends, and the euchre groups to which he belonged that played weekly and monthly.

Roy also believed in giving back to his community and volunteered each week with Ronald McDonald House Charities at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, and the Humane Society of Durham Region where he loved walking "the puppies".

Roy is pre-deceased by his parents, Klara & Herbert Streich, and is survived by his daughter Stephanie, son Nicholas, brother Ralph (Rita), their children Erika, Celene, Charlie and Christy, his former spouse and mother of his children, Liz Jakoi, and his partner Mary Ellen Chater.

Roy had an abundance of love for his family & friends and that legacy will carry on for a lifetime. He was always ready to help and will be forever remembered by them. In honour of Roy, a Celebration of Life was held at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home on Saturday November 23rd.
