BOWEN, Ruby Tharpe, 89, of Richmond, died January 18, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Garnie Stuart Bowen Jr.; son, Stuart Carlton Bowen and his wife, Karen; daughters, Janet Bowen Clark and Kathryn Bowen deKrafft and her husband, Nick; seven grandchildren, Wendy Dearmin, Richard Bowen, Beverly Roady, Amy Kerr, Rebecca Stevenson, John and Kathryn deKrafft; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Edna Collins and Janice Gurley. Ruby enjoyed music and square dancing, and she and Stuart were longtime members of the Golden Squares. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she was blessed with many friends. She devoted much of her time to the ministry of her church through singing in the choir, serving as a member of the United Methodist Women, participating in the activities of the Young at Heart, and caring for others in the congregation and community. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 22, at Bliley's-Chippenham Chapel, followed by entombment at 11:30 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Ln.
