Ruby Routh Cahill

GREENSBORO Ruby Pearl Routh Cahill died peacefully Tuesday, August 24. She was 98. A graduate of Bessemer High School, she lived most of her life in the Bessemer community. For the last 14 years her home was at Heritage Greens. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church. Born on December 13, 1918, she was the daughter of Mattie and Monroe Routh of Bennett. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Arthur Thomas Cahill (Artie) and all her siblings: Maxine Owens (Fletcher), Jo Ann Causey (Elmer), Herman Routh (Georgia), Hoyd Routh (Clara), and Jack Routh (Dorothy). Left to cherish her memory are daughters Barbara Black (Tom), Kathy Madren (Don), grandchildren Susan Holt (David), Casey Black (Laura), Brad Madren, and Shelby Madren. She has six great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and their spouses. As a young woman, Ruby worked at Kress in downtown Greensboro. In later years she worked in fabric sales, mainly at the Fabric Discount House. She always spoke fondly of her work and co-workers. She was a talented woman who excelled at sewing and crocheting. She made dozens of Christmons for her church. She gardened, read, and kept a lovely home. She enjoyed the friendship of many special people and cherished her family. Pastor Josh Eller will conduct a service in celebration of her life at Forbis and Dick on Elm Street at 3 o'clock on Sunday, August 27. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be at Guilford Memorial Park following the service.
