Ruby Cupp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 2, 2013.
In the early morning hours of Friday, February 1, 2013, God called and Ruby answered. Surrounded in her home by her family, our precious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister left us to begin her life with Jesus and join her loved ones. Ruby Louise Epperly Cupp, of Merrimac, was born January 5, 1928, to the late Posey and Lula Hixon Epperly of Ellet. Ruby's life ambitions began at an early age as she became a caregiver and homemaker for her brothers and sister. After marrying her husband, she devoted herself to carrying on the tradition of caregiver and homemaker, making sure his lunch was packed, dinner was on the table and his clothes were always clean and pressed.
Ruby gave birth to four precious children teaching each of them at a young age to love and serve the Lord. She took great pride in their appearance and accomplishments and offered support and made many special memories throughout their childhood and adult lives.
During Ruby's life she loved and served the Lord, spending hours on her knees beside of her bed praying for her family and the world. She was a member of the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness church for over 50 years and the head nursery worker 44 years; rocking babies was one of her favorite past times. She worked beside her husband as custodian of the church, a job she took very seriously. As with anything she did, she was always devoted.
Left to carry on her legacy is her husband of 65 years, Frank Alfred Cupp, of Blacksburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Donald Dix, of Christiansburg; son and daughters-in-law, Frank A. Cupp "Jr" and Ruth Cupp, of Christiansburg; Tim and Linda Cupp, of Fincastle; and Rod Cupp, of Pearisburg.
Ruby also had nine grandchildren and played important roles in each of their lives as caregiver, spiritual leader, and best friend. She had nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and was active in their lives as well. Her grandchildren are Kim and Matt Dix, Amy and Decota Huff, Greg Cupp, Rusty Cupp, Kevin Cupp, Megan Cupp, Casey Cupp, Lauren Cupp, Rhonda Griscti. Her great-grandchildren are Chad and Megan Harris, Kayla Harris, Austin Harris, Cody Huff, Cheyene Huff, Taylor Cupp, Brandon Cupp, Sterling Cupp, Maddie Cupp. Her great-great-grandchildren are Anthony, Tessa and Noah Harris and Ava Grace.
Ruby also leaves behind a sister, Lois Lane, of Maryland; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Edith Epperly, Garnet and Peggy Epperly, Joyce Epperly and Ruby Epperly. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Epperly, Lenoard Epperly, Robert Epperly, Garland Epperly and his wife, Connie, Luther Epperly and his wife, Helen. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Clarence Lane.
The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Borth, Dr. Daniel Osiami, Lynn Montgomery, Southern Care Hospice, especially Jessica, Katie, Jennifer and Cecilia, for the wonderful care they all provided.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 2, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013, at the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, Blacksburg, with the Rev. Jerry Sloss officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Online condolences may be left by visiting www.hornefuneralservice.com.
