When I was a young mother, Ruby and my neighbor, Debbie, got me out to meetings of Illinois Quilters. After meetings, we would go out for pie and tea. One time, it came up in the conversation that my relatives were from Gridley, IL. Ruby and I determined that we were distant cousins and when I got home I found Ruby and Castle in the geneology book that my grandparents had put together. We enjoyed knowing we were cousins, and enjoyed many times quilting together, at home and on quilters' retreats.
After Ruby moved to Lenexa, I visited once and we corresponded a bit until letters were returned. Sadly,I had not known how to reach Ruby for many years.
My prayers are with Ruby's family. I'm sure memories of Ruby and your times together will keep her glowing in your hearts.

As Virgene's brother-in-law I was fascinated by Ruby's sense of adventure by means of bicycling. She was my subject as a Sophomore in high school when choosing a hero in Social Studies class. Standing in front of the class was terrifying, but Ruby provided me with the courage to obtain one of my few A's in that class. Her bicycling accident when she crossed four lanes of traffic did not dampen her determination to keep pedaling. Ruby was an impetus for my desire to travel. I talked to her about my bicycling through Spain which she thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you, Ruby, for what you brought to my life.

A very sweet lady who I enjoyed riding & being with. She will be very much missed. She was the maid of honor & I was the best man at a friend's wedding.
We formed an arch with two gold rimmed wheels that the newly wed copuple walked through.
My sincere sympathy to her family

"Carolyn's Mom" was a legend when I was in high school at North Park. She introduced me to Snickerdoodles and MahJongg, and had energy and sass to spare. In addition to square-dancing with Castle what seemed like eight nights a week, she was quilting even then - in the late 'fifties. When I visited her forty-some years later, I was awed by the amazing body of quilting art she had created. Some was traditional, and some utterly, uniquely "Ruby" -- all gorgeous.
Determined, feisty, and completely unforgettable - she will be greatly missed.

Ruth was the mother of my childhood friend. I remember she had a great sense of humor and a wicked wit.

Ruby was a fantastic cyclist. I met her when I was just entering the world of cycling. She was an inspiration to all she came in contact with and was known to drop everything and leave on long distance cycling trips with little encouragement.

Ruby and I belonged to a quilt group in Illinois. I always admired her spunk and was in awe that she chose to do bike-riding at a later time in her life. Her Angel Food cake was famous and she was always asked to bring that to our potlucks. My condolences to Ruby's family. I will miss her. Jenny Ballway, Mesa, Arizona
