Giles, Ruby Mae (Phillips), 92, of Big Stone Gap, VA, passed from earth to her heavenly home on Tuesday (Aug. 23, 2011) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap. Born on October 4, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Virgie (Hounshell) Phillips. She became a Christian at a young age and served the Lord for many years and was always willing to share her faith and tell how good the Lord had been to her. She graduated from Radford Teachers College and taught school for a few years in Wise County before she became a devoted wife and mother. In latter years, she became a volunteer at Heritage Hall and spent many hours visiting and helping the residents. She was a member of Ayers Chapel Church in Big Stone Gap. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Ray Giles, an infant son, Benny Giles and son, Eddy Giles. She is survived by her son, David Giles and Julia; grandsons, Johnny Giles, Travis Giles and Allison, Jarrod Giles and Sierra, great grandson, Charlie Giles, Sherry Giles and her loyal dog, Princess. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home sanctuary with Elder Burnice Sybert officiating. Burial will follow in Glencoe Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Johnny Giles, Travis Giles, Jarrod Giles, Alan Giles, Mark Giles, John Giles, Doug Rogers & Fred Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be: Special friends and Scout Leaders, and Eddy's Fellow Teachers and Bus Drivers. To view the obituary and online registry, please visit www.holdingfuneralhome.com.
