Ruby Green

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Ruby Margaret Cordell Green, 90, at Brightview/Wellspring Village, Westminster, MD, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1932, in Feagaville, MD, to the late Harvey William and Helen Virginia (Castle) Cordell. She met her late husband, Raymond E. Green, at Franklin's dancehall in Taylorsville, MD. Together, they built their beautiful family in Sykesville over the next 70 years.

Ruby graduated from Frederick High School in Frederick, MD, in 1951. She was office manager for Dr. Howard E. Hall and later became a real estate agent and worked for Jim Erb and retired as a homemaker. Her hobbies included playing cards on Friday nights, watching Oriole games on TV, canning vegetables from the garden, and working on puzzles. Ruby was known for her excellent cooking and warm, welcoming friendship - never short on pies, cakes, or opinions. Her kitchen and home were always open, and no one ever left hungry. From cakes to pies, her doughnuts and cinnamon buns on snowy days, home-cooked meals, and everything in between, she was a treasure in the kitchen. She found great joy in passing on her knowledge and recipes to her family and friends and believed in making things from scratch. Her cakes and pies were favorites at Church Suppers and potlucks, among other baked goods. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Gamber.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn R. Hill, Finksburg, MD; Randy C. Green and wife April, Wimauma, FL; and Candice R. Yates and husband John, Westminster, MD; grandchildren Captain Katrina L Hill, USN; Honorable Anni L. Hill Foster, Phoenix, AZ; Jonathan D. Hill and wife Christine; Randy "Corey" Cordell Green, Jr. and wife Heather, Westminster, MD; Kristin Kelly and husband Graham, Wilmington, NC, and Mathew Schweiger and wife Amy; Taneytown, MD. She is also survived by her eleven great-grandchildren, Gus Svoboda, George W. Foster, Lillian and Lucas Hill, Darcie and Mellie Green, Jordyn, Aubree, and Dylan Schweiger, Ryder Atkinson and Colin and Parker Tomlin; sister Shirley A. Krantz and husband Phillip, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Green (2021); son, Douglas William Green; son-in-law David E. Hill; grandson, Michael D. Schweiger, Jr.; great-granddaughter Katelyn Faith Hill, and sister Marion V. Ashford and Elizabeth Abrecht.

Services and Interment will be private.
