Ruby Lee Tester "Granny" Harless ABINGDON, Va. Ruby Lee Tester "Granny" Harless, 87, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in the Abingdon Manor with her family by her bed side. Granny Harless was born in Bristol, Va. on June 5, 1926, the daughter of the late John M. Tester Sr. and Mamie Rosenbaum Tester. She was a graduate of Wallace High School and she lived most her life in Abingdon. She retired from Abingdon High School where she worked as the cafeteria manager for many years. She was the last oldest original charter member of Shady Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church where she taught Sunday school for numerous years. Ruby was an excellent cook and her kitchen was always open to anyone that would stop by and one of her true pleasures was feeding a group of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd E. "Doc" Harless. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, John M. Tester Jr. and Stanley E. Tester; and her sister, Della Marie Harmon. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in- law, Gary E. Harless and wife, Connie, and David W. Harless and wife, Kathy, who are left behind to cherish the wonderful memories of her; her four loving grandchildren, Tonya Moore, Anthony Harless, Canaan Harless and Grace Harless; her loving great- grandchildren, Carty, Landon and Jayden; her caring brother, Kenneth Tester; and her four wonderful sisters, Peggy Smithson, Betty Clark, Clara Cox and Emma Daughtery who visited her on a daily basis. The family would like to thank Dr. James Gardner, Hospice of Southwest Virginia and her resident family and staff of Abingdon Manor whom she loved dearly. Funeral services for Granny Harless will be conducted 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Matney officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:45 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Canaan Harless, Anthony Harless, Jack Triplett, Bobby Reynolds, John Tester, Eddie Arnold, Tim Arnold and Lee Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be John "Eddie" Belcher, Rick Harless, Terry Harless, Gerald Harless and James Russ. Family and friends are ask to meet at the Cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Friday.
