STONEVILLE — Ruby Irene Lester, 90, of 102 Shop Road in Stoneville, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, at Stoneville Christian Church. Burial will follow in Stoneville Municipal Cemetery.
Miss Lester was born September 29, 1921 in Rockingham County, daughter of the late Thomas Oliver and Rosa Mae Bell Lester. She was a 1938 graduate of Stoneville High School and a retiree of Tultex. After her retirement she was employed at RCC in the GED program. Miss Lester was a life-long member of Stoneville Christian Church in Stoneville, where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class for a number of years. She also served as an Elder in the church.
Surviving are three sisters, Eleanor L. Purgason of Mayodan, Bessie E. Lester of Stoneville and formerly of Martinsville, VA and Hilda L. Purgason of Mayodan; four nieces and four nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Thomas Lester and John Edward Lester; and two sisters, Myrtle Lester Watts and Lucy L. Lester.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Stoneville Christian Church (10 to 11 a.m.) and other times at 102 Shop Road in Stoneville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stoneville Christian Church, PO Box 907, Stoneville, NC 27048; Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

I worked with Ruby in my early days of teaching GED. She was a gem who always went above and beyond and showed that she truly cared for her students. God be with you in your time of sadness , yet rejoice because I know she dwells with God. Dana Blankenship
