Gail and Fred and Family,
Sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother.
Ruby and your Dad were life long friends and travel companions of my parents, John and Polly Steinmeyer. I will miss your Mother's friendship and our shared history. My brother and I wish you God's peace.

Gail, Fred, & Family:
Mrs. Matthews was so instrumental in deciding which career path I was destined to follow. Her guidance and advice were so crucial for me being able to find a job which I have been passionate about.
I have taken many of her traits and used them as I now advise students who have dropped out of high school and returned to pursue their education (a GED or finish their diploma).
I can remember how she always encouraged students to get as much education as they can and become skilled in a particular craft or occupation.
Peace be with you and family and may her memories and many contributions to education in SC live through her students!

Gail and Fred,
Our mothers began teaching together at Fishburne in 1953 and remained fast friends for the next half century plus. Mrs. Matthews was also a great friend, example, and role model to us as we went through Fishburne, Hanahan, and later walks of life. If ever there were a person who had a positive effect on her community and its citizens for multiple generations, it was your mother. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Matthews taught me when I was a student at Charleston Southern University (then Baptist College) in the early 70's. She was an excellent teacher and an inspiration to her students. She was also a very classy lady. She will be missed by those who knew her. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Ruby was a great lady ... an outstanding educator in and out of the classroom. She always had a smile and a friendly greeting whenever she met you. She cared about the children locally and statewide and that they got the best education possible.
I was blessed to have known and worked with her!

Mrs. Matthews was one of the most elegant ladies I have ever met. Everyone that went to Hanahan High during her teaching years, I'm sure, will agree that she was a great teacher and friend to all of her
students. I was so blessed to have spoken to her earlier in the summer. May God be with those who mourn her passing. Betty Jacques Wickert (Class of 1962

Mrs. Matthews was a favorite of every student who attended Hanahan High School in the 60's. She definitely had an influence on each and every one of our lives and attended every one of the Class of 1962's reunions. Even though I hated her typing class, I thanked her every time I saw her because I use those Mrs. Matthew-taught-skills every day! A very special person will be missed by many people.

Probably my very favorite school teacher. EVER. I was in the 6th grade. I remember thinking--even then--how beautiful, classy and elegant she was. When I saw her some 10 years or so ago at a Hanahan High reunion, She STILL had that look. RIP

Although we only knew each other for the past three years, you were an inspiration to me. I will miss our endearing conversations as I did your manicures and sometimes, your lovely hair. May you rest in Peace, my Friend.
