DEGRAFF - Ruby Helmandollar McCann, 96, passed away at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio, on July 8, 2017. She was born on August 24, 1920, to the late Gordon and Lucinda Scott Helmandollar in West Virginia. She moved as a child with her family to Quincy, Ohio. On December 22, 1946, she married Roy Herschel McCann who preceded her in death in 1998.
Ruby was a graduate of Quincy High School and the Ohio State University. She taught for many years in the Quincy and Riverside elementary school systems. She enjoyed math, but the later years teaching and tending to the second graders were her favorite. She was a member of the Northtowne Church of God in Sidney and taught Sunday school classes for a number of years.
After their retirement Ruby and Herschel enjoyed traveling and camping. Ruby also enjoyed many crafts including sewing and making doll clothes. She loved any activity that included her grandchildren, and always had cookies and other treats for them on their visits.
Ruby was preceded in death by eight of her siblings and is survived by her sister Mary Ruth (John, Jr.) Ball along with numerous generations of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her daughters Patricia McCann, Sidney, Ohio, and Debra (Jerry, deceased) Cress, Laura, Ohio, and Debra's children Jennifer (Matthew) Berrey, of Waynesville, Ohio; Jacob Cress and his partner Joseph Freeman, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Elisabeth (Kyle) Courtright of Tipp City, Ohio; and Alison (Katlin) Clark of Tipp City, Ohio. Great grandchildren include Connor and Katie Berrey and Kinsley and Kip Courtright.
Services are private and will be held at a time arranged by the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Ohio Living Dorothy Love, 3003 W. Cisco Rd., Sidney, Ohio 45365 or any charity of the donor's choice. Thinking of you and your family at this time.
Ruby was a grand lady. It was a privilege knowing her and her family. I have been thinking about Ruby and daughters before she passed.
Love to all.
