Ruby M. Morrison

ASHTABULA — Ruby M. Morrison, an Ashtabula citizen for most of her very long life, died Monday, June 9, 2008, in her 100th year in Venice, Fla.She was born in Pasadena, Calif., on Feb. 4, 1909. In 1918, she moved to Ashtabula with her parents, Archie and Luella (McKinnon) Myers. She was graduated from Ashtabula High School and from (Case) Western Reserve University.As a partner with her late husband, Henry Morrison, she ran the Morrison Radio Supply Co. for 45 years and thereafter (1978-1987) the Framing Center.Mrs. Morrison was an active member of the Zonta Club, which named her "Woman of the Year". She was a member of the Ashtabula Yacht Club; the Redbrook Boat Club; the Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce; the Red Hat Society; the Ashtabula Historical Society; and the First Presbyterian Church. She was also active in community affairs, serving on the Ashtabula County Children's Services Board for 32 years; the Ashtabula Hospital Board as well as the Ashtabula School Board, which she served as President in 1956.The Morrisons’ were avid world travelers and yachtsman, and sailed in races at both the Ashtabula Yacht Club and the Redbrook Boat Club. They wintered in Venice, Fla., for many years, where Mrs. Morrison moved in 2007. In her declining years, she became an avid bridge player.She is survived by a brother, William Myers of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Lt. Commander Frederick Stanley Morrison (retired) of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Dr. Mary Morrison Wehle of Tiverton, R.I.; three granddaughters, Lawton Fitt, Sarah Wehle and Amy Wehle; and three great-grandsons.Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING and BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Glen Warner officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery in Ashtabula.Calling Hours will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Service at the Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
