Ruby Marie Poland 11/21/1925 – 4/18/2012 April 18th, 2012, Ruby M. Poland, was reunited with her beloved husband, Raymond F. Poland, after 34 years of being apart. Ruby was born to Rolo and Margaret Gray November 21, 1925 in Parnell, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her brother Eldon, sisters Bonnie Masters and Kay Evans, father Rolo Gray, mother Margaret Gray, husband Raymond Poland, daughter Donna Michel, son R. Doug Poland, and daughter-in-law Valerie E. Poland. She leaves behind her brother Dean Gray (Marilyn); son Dennis L. Poland (Lyla); grandchildren Darin Michel, Devon Michel, Candy Thornhill (Bryan), Melanie Cartwright (Brian), Melissa Poland-Knapik (Bryan) and Dennis W. Poland (Mindy); great-grandchildren Austin Thornhill, Trentin Thornhill, Bailey Cartwright, Kenedy Cartwright, Camryn Cartwright, Shayla Michel, Tyla Michel, Bryson Knapik, Ayden Knapik, Nathan Knapik, Trey Poland and Carter Poland; and great-great-grandson Cooper McMurray-Thornhill; along with many other family and friends. Ruby and Ray moved to Kennewick from Spokane in 1947 where they owned and operated the Green Gable Motel, along with starting a construction company to build new homes. In 1976, they incorporated, and became Ray Poland and Son's Inc. Ruby enjoyed raising her family here in the Tri-Cities. A family that works together plays together. They enjoyed hunting trips, vacations to Reno and Las Vegas, trips to Disneyland, and cruising. She had a passion for finding that lucky slot machine or playing her favorite Keno numbers on many trips. The lottery, scratch-offs and trips to Wild Horse, were still among her favorite things to partake in. Her six grandchildren have given her 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson in February 2012. She's always put her Faith and family first, enjoying her grandma time and spoiling her grandkids rotten as is a grandma's prerogative. Work was at the forefront of Ruby's life. She believed a job worth doing is worth doing well. She treated the employees like family, receiving frequent visits from the staff; the office won't be the same without her presence. She taught her children and grandchildren that a work ethic is something that cannot be taken away. Ruby liked to lead by example, only in the last six months of her life did she stop coming to the office. She thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful care she received at Fleur De' Lis Adult Family Home, it truly is more than just another assisted living facility. Visitation will be held Monday, April 23, 2012, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 24th, 1:00 p.m., at South Hills Church, 3700 W. 27th Avenue, Kennewick, with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
