Obituary

Ruby Ann Swenson, 89, formerly of Gilby, ND, passed away peacefully at her home in Warwick, ND, on August 15, 2006. Ruby had been ill for the past month and was able to get home from the hospital on August 14, 2006. She was very happy living with her daughter, Vicki and her husband Allen Machovsky. She loved the lake, its numerous activities and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren often. Ruby was born September 23, 1916, to Henry & Cynthia Simons at Michigan, ND. She attended schools in Whitman, Grand Forks, and Denver, CO. Ruby graduated from Whitman High School in 1933 and attended Union Commercial College (now Aakers) in Grand Forks, ND. Ruby was united in marriage to Elbert A. Swenson on June 14, 1934, in Grand Forks. They lived on a farm west of Gilby and farmed for many years. Ruby helped organize the Wheatfield Homemakers Club, taught Sunday school was a deacon at Gilby Presbyterian Church and was a very active church and circle member. She worked on numerous funerals, weddings, and church doings and was always willing to whip up some buns or goodies to bring. Ruby was a hard worker, and was always ready to help Elbert in the field whether it was to cultivate or drive grain truck or whatever duties a farm wife needed to do. She never walked, she was always on a quick trot, and you may have found her on the roof cleaning gutters or on a ladder painting the whole house in one day or watering her flower gardens. She never was lazy or sat still too long in one place. She embraced life with a zest and a smile. Ruby is survived by her daughters; Beverly (Allan) Infeld, San Diego, CA, & Vicki (Allen) Machovsky Sr. of Warwick, ND, granddaughter; Alleson Ellefson of Gilby, grandsons; Craig Infeld of San Diego, CA, Ross Infeld of Havre de Grace, MD, Kevin Kilgore and Allen ""Sonny' Machovsky Jr. of Grand Forks, great-grandsons, Tyler Machovsky of Thompson, ND, Hunter Infeld of Havre de Grace, MD, Devin Ellefson of Gilby, ND, great-granddaughters, Coral Infeld, of Havre de Grace, MD, Andrea Ellefson and Alexis Ellefson of Gilby, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband Elbert, daughter; Darlyne Kilgore, brothers; August, Floyd, and Roy Simons, as well as her parents. Funeral Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Gilby Presbyterian Church in Gilby, ND. Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2006, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St. in Grand Forks, and for the hour before the service at the church. My deepest sympathy to all Ruby's family members. She was a wonderful person, gracious, generous, and always cheerful. We will miss coming to her house when we come back to N.Dak.

Ruby was a special cousin of mine and how I enjoyed the times we spent together. One special time was when my Mom died and Ruby was the first one to come over, with an angel food, words of comfort, and then went with me to make necessary arrangements. That meant so much to me. My deepest sympathy to Beverly, Vicki and your families at this time. You are in my prayers.

love,

Betty

Rugby was my great aunt and has been an important part of our family holidays, attending Thanksgiving dinners for many years. She always looked great, was fun to be around and ALWAYS insisted on helping with the dishes! Ruby used to have us over on New Year's day and while we weren't able to attend many of them, she was a great hostess. She will be deeply, deeply missed for her sense of humor and genuine interest in the activities in all of our lives. She was a great lady.
