Ruby M. Whitehead, 92, of Decatur, IL, passed away February 2, 2015, at Imboden Creek Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday February 7, 2015 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Tabernacle Baptist Church or Easter Seals of Decatur. Ruby was born to the late Caria Edward Williams and the late Emma Hahn Williams on September 20, 1922, in Farmington, MO. After graduating high school, Ruby moved with her parents and siblings to Detroit, MI, where she met her future husband, the late Herman "Whitey" Whitehead. She married her "handsome Southern gentleman" in 1941. They moved to Decatur in 1954. He preceded her in death February 7, 1987. Ruby was an employee at Eisner/Jewel Supermarket until she retired in 1982. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with former co-workers and friends from church. Ruby was very active and was known for her sense of humor. She liked travelling, attending local theater productions, and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including drawing and writing stories for her great-granddaughter and great-nephew. Ruby is survived by two children: Sandra (George) Baker of Decatur and Janice (Toomas) Kriisa of Decatur; five grandchildren: Gail Grigg (Dee King), Ty (Laura) Grigg, Peeter Kriisa, Keith Baker, and Jill (Brad) Rau; five great-grandchildren: Fiona King, Henry Grigg, Bradford (Jenny) Rau, Christian Rau, and Brendan Rau; two brothers: Marvin Williams and Carl Williams; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by one sister, Glenda Ward, and seven brothers: Paul, John, Fred, Lloyd, Joe, Walter and Jim.
