Russ and Helen Harvie

I'm so sorry for your loss Mark, sending hugs and prayers to your family.

What a wonderful and spot-on eulogy for two incredibly warm, loving, positive people that we were so blessed to have had in our lives. We met Helen and Russ in 2009 when we moved in next door. It was instant friendship and that friendship grew even closer over the ensuing years. Then 11 years later we discovered that Russ and Judy were actually 2nd cousins, so we officially became family, although it seemed we already were. We now live in Florida so are unable to attend the Celebration of Life, but we will always celebrate and treasure the many wonderful memories we have of them, and will deeply miss having them in our lives.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvie (as they were always known to me) made this world a better place for so many. I have wonderful memories of their kindness through various youth ministry activities. They always were supportive to everyone and that was such a great example for so many young people. Gail, Mark, and Mike, I am very sorry for your deep loss.

Last summer we went with Helen and Russ to a Karaoke in Scarborough at Cow Bell restaurant. Of course Helen performed her go-to song.

Dave and I will miss our chats outdoors. I will miss seeing you walking down the road holding hands. It was only natural they went together at the end. Peace to the family. Connie and Dave

Helen was my first supervisor at Bass, she was fun, fair, kind and very supportive of her team. She made going to work fun and we had some crazy holiday gatherings with her in OOB

What a shock it was to everyone to have both Russ and Helen pass in one day. Stephen kept our family, the Andersons, informed, but what he said was hard to believe. You have all been in our thoughts and our prayers. You are fortunate that your grief will surely be tinged with thankfulness for the fine parents they were and the liveliness with which they approached life. They left you all with a fine legacy.

Our deepest sympathies to the entire Harvie family, Russ & Helen were our neighbors for the last 20 years, always smiling, and lots of small talk and just genuine warm people. We were very fortunate to have known this devoted couple.

We first met Russ & Helen when we became involved with Marriage Encounter in 1976. They were involved in giving weekends for married couples. We had just returned from completing a Marriage Encounter weekend and were asked on the weekend if we would like to share weekends with other couples as a rookie couple (beginners). We accepted and had to prepare a presentation for future weekends and that's when we met your fantastic parents, What a beautiful couple. They workshoped our talks to make sure we were right on. We met at their home and what a warm welcome we received. Fr. Phil Tracy, a good friend of your parents, who was there too and who had given weekends with them. He would workshop our talks, as well. We were so taken back by your mom and dad that we never forgot them. In our eyes we saw them as a very SPECIAL COUPLE and their love was so evident.

They welcomed me, my daughters, and my family in to their lives and accepted us with loving arms. My daughters were fortunate to have them in their lives. It's simple for me, they were just happy and enjoyed whatever I'd throw their way. I.e., Titos!

Glen and I were in your parents’ Pre-Cana marriage class over 35 years ago which was required at the time to be married at St. Mary’s Church in Westbrook. They were such a blessing to us. Michael and family, thinking of you during this time, and sending my love, uplifting prayers and positive thoughts to all of you. Their love for each other, all of you and their friends is evident in the beautiful obituary - "both had a love for each other that I’ve only seen in movies" - may you all gain peace in their passing over time, knowing that they are together and are watching over everyone that they loved so fiercely.

Russ and Helen were our wonderful neighbors their kindness will never be forgotten. Joe and I will ring the bell for happy hour and keep a spot open for them on our deck.

A super-lovely couple that, while only having met them a couple times, made a lasting impact on my heart. Great parents, FUN parents, salt-of-the-earth people that created a beautiful family. Russ & Helen we’re such lovely, fun people. We always looked forward to our annual get togethers with them in Phoenix.
They will be greatly missed.

Helen and Russ attended their granddaughter Maylen’s wedding in 2022. Russ was unable to actually attend the wedding because he came down with COVID upon arrival. He was so sad to miss the big event. Helen stayed with him most of the time. She did attend the wedding and looked beautiful even in her mask. Her warmth was infectious. It was a pleasure to see her. I wish they had both been able to spend time with the family. We missed them. Their spirit and warmth will be missed by all who loved them. Huge hugs to all the family from our side of the family.
