Published by Calgary Herald from Nov. 28 to Nov. 29, 2014.
CHOW, Russell William
June 4, 1945 - November 20, 2014
With sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Russell William Chow. He was born in Vulcan, Alberta where he spent his childhood swimming and skating, hunting with his father and brother, and playing Little League Baseball. In 1958, the family relocated to Lomond, Alberta, where he completed high school. Russell attended the University of Calgary, where he met his wife Linda. During his university years summer jobs included delivering Chinese take-out at Linda Mae's and supervising life-guards at City of Calgary pools. After graduating from university, he taught for 30 years with the Calgary Board of Education. Family was an important part of Russell's life. Countless hours were spent on competitive badminton trips, skiing vacations and summers in the Shuswap. Russell enjoyed participating in activities himself including fly fishing, hunting, running and Benny Hill badminton. During his retirement years he took pleasure in travelling with Linda, lunching with friends, bargain hunting and continuing his outdoor pursuits. Russell is survived by Linda, his wife of 43 years, children Kimberly (Sam) and Christopher (Elaine); grandchildren Harrison, Thomas, Clara and Charlotte; siblings Valeen (D'Arcy) and Joy (Franz), niece Annemarie, nephews Michael and Erich, and members of the Suey family. Russell was predeceased by his parents, Kae and Frank Chow, and his brother, Don. A Celebration of Life for Russell will be held December 10, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Calgary Winter Club, 4611-14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alberta Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI), 3412 Spruce Drive SW, Calgary, Alberta or a charity of your choice.

Dear Linda
I was deeply saddened to hear of Russell's untimely passing. Both Carol and I remember fondly of the great warmth that Russell and you showed us when we returned from Australia all those years ago. We enjoyed Russell's company for a short time when he visited us here in Australia and I enjoyed the reminiscing with him. Some great memories form so long ago.
Our sympathies to you and your family for your loss.

Linda ... Valeen ... Joy and families: I was very sorry to learn of Russell's passing. I remember him well from his years in Lomond and his long friendship with my brother Eldon, who he attended school with. The illness and troubles he had to deal with during the past couple of years were sad and so unfortunate! Because I am out of the country I will not be able to attend his service, but please know my thoughts will be of him, and all of his family, on that day! Sincerely ... Marvin Maronda of Lomond

Lucille and I are very saddened to learn of Russ's passing. I remember Russ from university days when the Zetes from Edmonton came down to help with initiating the first members of the Zeta Psi Fraternity on the Calgary campus. Russ was the first president of the Calgary Chapter and I know he was always a proud Zete.
