Russell Lynn Giles, 53 of Thaxton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at the Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Friday, Oct. 16, 1959 in Ft. Meade, MD, a son of Kenneth Ray Giles and special friend Doris Myers and the late Marianne Margot Brehm Giles. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Giles and a sister Susan Ann Creasy. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran having served for 20 years. In addition to his father he is survived by his wife Tina Marie Tullis Giles, 2 sons; Matthew Giles of Thaxton and Ronnie Giles of Christiansburg, a sister, Cynthia J. Shaulis of Lynchburg, his mother-in-law, Janice Tullis of Bedford, his sister-in-law, Paulette Tullis of Bedford, his brother-in-law Cliff Tullis of Birmingham, AL. and a special dog, Cali. Military honors will be accorded on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at 3 pm at Updike Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 from 1 pm until 3 pm.at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.

rusty was like a dad to me for a big portion of my life, his first born matt like my brother, rusty didnt care if you were laughing at him or with him, as long as you were laughing. all my love to him and his family who i consider my own
