Russell Sutherland

Sutherland, Russell "Russ", 88, of Clermont Florida passed away on April 26, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital in Tavares, Florida. Born and raised in Caribou Maine he joined the Army after High School and had a long career working for newspapers to include Stars and Stripes and the St. Petersburg times. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adelbert and Marie Sutherland; Sisters Gretchen, Esther, Margaret, Marjorie, Jean and Betty; Brothers Hayden, Roland, and Stanley. Russ is survived by his sister Judi Greener of Cross Lake Maine; Brother Willis Sutherland of Caribou Maine; Daughter Cheryl Laska; Son Daniel Sutherland and two grandchildren Jaclyn Mae Young and Dakota Russell Sutherland. Russ was very independent, resourceful and loving individual. He was extremely well versed in storytelling. Took great pride in the ability to name all the Presidents from memory and ability to say the Alphabet backwards. He loved the English language and was always working on writing using his linguistic skills. Russ felt joy from time with family and caring for others throughout his retirement years. His beautiful smile, quick wit, dry sense of humor, and subtle laugh that gave him such a charming spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Russ's memorial service will be June 13, 2024, at 11a.m. at the Bay Pines National Cemetery 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, St Petersburg FL 33708.
